John Erhardt Obituary

ERHARDT, DR. JOHN G., 92, a retired educator, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 5, 2012. He was the beloved husband of Rita M. (Gagnon) Mooney-Erhardt and the late Eleanor (Tareila) Erhardt. Born in East Providence, the son of the late John G. and Katherine J. (Kirby) Erhardt, he resided in Riverside before moving to Seekonk over 40 years ago. Dr. Erhardt was a graduate of East Providence High School; 1942 graduate of URI and 1949 graduate of U Mass, where he received his Doctorate in Chemistry. He taught at Salve Regina College and URI. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran and a member and Past-commander of American Legion Post 311, Seekonk. Dr. Erhardt was a life member of the Knights of Columbus Council 5108, Seekonk; Seekonk School Committee and a member of the Seekonk Board of Selectman for 12 years. He wrote five volumes on the history of East Providence and Seekonk from 1645 until the present. Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Linda M. Erhardt; 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He was the father of the late Carol Ann Martin and also has a late sister, Frances. His funeral will be held Saturday at 9 a.m. from WILLIAM W. TRIPP Funeral Home, 1008 Newport Ave., Pawtucket, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 984 Taunton Ave., Seekonk. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Seekonk Cemetery. VISITATION will be Friday 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts to Home & Hospice Care of RI, 1085 North Main St., Providence, RI 02904 or St. Jude Claretian Missionaries, 205 W. My sincere condolences to the family of Dr. Erhardt. You remain in my thoughts and prayers. I taught briefly with Dr. Earhardt at DeLasalle Academy, Newport in 1969-70. "Doc" was truly inspirational to both students and faculty. Sincerely, John R. Richard
