Shirley Dawley Obituary

DAWLEY, SHIRLEY

TAYLOR (JONES, STACY), 85, passed away October 17, 2010. She lived in Warwick most of her life but was a resident of the North Bay Manor community in Smithfield her last years.

Mrs. Dawley was born at home in Johnston, December 29, 1924 the daughter of the late Charlotte E. (Taylor) Jones and Raymond L. Jones. She was also the sister of the late David O. Jones and Mertis E. (Jones) Wischnowsky. She was the wife of the late Fred P. Stacy, Jr. and the late Benjamin E. Dawley who she later married on November 22, 1967. She was also the mother of the late Fred P. Stacy, III and the mother-in-law of the late Michael L. Gallucci who passed on September 28, 2010.

She is survived by her two daughters and son, Mrs. Cheryl D. (Stacy) Lilley and her husband Gerald F. Lilley of Pampa, Texas, Mrs. Barbara J. (Stacy) Gallucci of West Warwick, RI and Mr. Richard L. Stacy, Sr. and his wife Theresa E. Stacy of North Grosvenordale, CT. She has five grandchildren, three great-granddaughters and two great-grandsons and many nieces and nephews who lovingly referred to her as "Auntie Toto". Her sister-in-law Marcia Jones of West Greenwich and brother-in-law Richard J. Wischnowsky and his wife Millie of Rotonda West, FL and Cranston, RI also survive her. She was also the stepmother of Mrs. Kathy Lavoie and her husband Pete Lavoie of Coventry, RI and Mrs. Pat Stewart and her husband Don Stewart of Lenhartsville, Pennsylvania. She has five step-grandchildren and 14 step-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Dawley was a 1943 graduate of Mount Pleasant High School. She was employed by the Rhode Island Hospital Trust bank in 1962 and retired in 1986 as a senior bank teller.

Mrs. Dawley was a Life Member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Providence Chapter No. 1. She served on many positions and committees with her late husband Benjamin E. Dawley. She served as worthy matron six times between 1984 and 1998. She had honorary memberships at Aquidneck, Pawtuxet, Electa, Signet, Eureka and Betsy Williams's chapters. She also served as Grand Representative with the states of Nevada, California and Oklahoma. She also served in the Grand Chapter of Eastern Star as Past Grand Ruth.

The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to Dr. Antioan Kardous, MD and the entire staff at North Bay Manor for the wonderful care and attention given to Mrs. Dawley during the time she was with them.

Friends may call at the Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home and Crematory, 659 East Greenwich Ave., West Warwick, Friday 5-7 p.m. There will be a service by the Order of the Eastern Star, Providence Chapter No. 1 at the end of the calling hours. Funeral Services will be held at the Church of the Master in Providence, RI on Saturday October 23, 2010 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Alejandro (Alex) Gaete officiating followed by a private family internment. Cards of condolences to the family may be sent to the Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in her memory to the Alzheimer's Association, 245 Waterman St., Suite 306, Providence, RI 02906 or the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, 205 Hallene Rd., Suite 209, Warwick, RI 02886 in "honor" of her daughter Barbara J. Our sincere sympathy to all of Shirley's family and extended familes, especially her O.E.S. family. We have known Shirley and Ben for many years and loved them. Now they are together again. She will be missed by so many!

My sincere condolences to all of Shirley's family. Shirley loved her children and especially loved her grandchildren. Richard Jr. and I have many fond memories of Shirley and she will be missed. All I can think of is that she will now be joining her Mom that she missed so much and Auntie Mertis and Uncle Dave, she will be at peace. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.
