Marcelino Martinez Obituary

2/17/1939 - 10/31/2018Marcelino Martinez Jr., 79, of Carson died unexpectedly October 31, 2018 following gallbladder surgery. Marcelino, who also went by Marty and Moose, was born February 17, 1939 to Marcelino and Maria Louisa Martinez. He grew up in Wilmington with his eight brothers and sisters. Marcelino graduated from Banning High School ('57) and spent two years in the U.S. Army as a radio operator. On February 19, 1966 he married the love of his life, Roberta Buck. They raised two daughters and were married 52 years. Marcelino was very proud to be a longshoreman at the Port of Los Angeles, often greeting friends boarding cruise ships as he worked. He was a 40-year member of the ILWU Local 13 & 94. After retirement, he enjoyed watching his grandsons play baseball and soccer, spending time with his wife Roberta and eating at local diners. He took great joy in paying for the meals of others and making those around him happy. Marcelino leaves behind his wife Roberta, daughters Deborah (Greg) Foreyt, Claudine (Bill) Valot, four grandchildren, Alexandria, Alyssa, Christopher, Jonathan, and his dog Sandy. Vigil will be held Wednesday, November 14 at 7p.m. and funeral mass is on November 15 at 10:00 a.m. both at St. Margaret Catholic Church in Lomita.
