ROCK ISLAND-DeShawn L. Tatum, 25, of Rock Island, Illinois, was called Home on Thursday, April 1, 2021.
Services are Noon Friday, April 9, 2021, at Word of Life Church, 1804 7th Ave. Rock Island. Visitation is from 10:00 a.m. until time of services. Burial is in Chippiannock Cemetery, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to the family for a fund to be established in DeShawn's memory.
DeShawn Latiwon Tatum was born March 22, 1996, in Davenport, Iowa the son of Gaye McDuffy and Marcus Tatum. He received his education from the Rock Island/Milan Schools and graduated with his diploma. He worked different jobs through his life and was pursing his career with a CDL.
He loved spending time with his family and friends, jogging, playing Playstation, and was always the life of the party. Above all else, family was the most important thing to DeShawn, and he loved doing things with his kids.
He leaves to cherish his life his children, DeShawn Tatum, Jr., LaShawna Tatum, Jay'Shawn Wilson, Xavier Foster, and Danae Price; his mother, Gaye McDuffy of Rock Island; sisters, Auveonce Brown and Andreona McDuffy of Rock Island; a brother, Marquis Greer; grandparents, John (Kim) McDuffy of Davenport, and Emma Tatum of Davenport; a special aunt, Patricia McDuffy; a host of aunts, uncles, a niece, nephews, and cousins; and best friends, Elliott Cameron and Dontae Tate; and a special friend, Asianna Hearn. He was preceded in death by his father, Marcus Tatum; his maternal grandmother, Patricia Diane Anders; his maternal great-grandmother, Willie L. McDuffy; and his paternal grandfather, Curtis Fuzz.
