Doyle A. Newton, 87, of Moline passed away Saturday, March 5, 2022 at UnityPoint Health Trinity, Rock Island.
Services will be at 11:00am Friday, March 11th at Countryside Christian Church, 3817 230th St. N. Port Byron. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00pm with a Masonic and Elks service to follow on Thursday, March 10th at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to the Quad City Animal Welfare Center or Countryside Christian Church.
Doyle was born on May 11, 1934 in Rudd, IA, the oldest son of Irving and Lolabelle (Pennel) Newton. He spent his elementary school years in Minneapolis, MN and then moved to Rudd, IA where he attended middle school and graduated from high school as an accomplished musician (trumpet) and athlete.
He married the love of his life and best friend, Dorothy Stiles on April 14, 1952 in Sibley, IA and would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary this April. In his early career, he worked in the millwork industry managing warehouse branches in Iowa and Illinois. He then became an insurance agent, starting the first neighborhood Allstate Insurance agency in the Quad Cities and continued to operate it for 33 years. His son, and now his grandson, operate the same Allstate agency in Moline, continuing his legacy. In addition, his children and many of his grandchildren have also continued his path serving their communities in the insurance industry.
Doyle's faith was important to him and he was a member of Countryside Christian Church in Port Byron. He served his community as a proud contributing member of Rock Island Elks Lodge #980, where he was a Past Exalted Ruler and a member of the Masonic Rock-Sirius Lodge #294 in Nora Springs, IA where he was a 32nd Degree Mason and Past Master. He also was active in Rock Island Youth Baseball as a coach and as a board member for many years.
Doyle was an avid golfer, had a green thumb and loved his country, animals and the Iowa Hawkeyes. He had a larger than life personality, a jovial spirit and twinkle in his eye that was contagious to everyone he met. He never met a stranger and never hesitated to give advice. He was sometimes obstinate but was always loving. He lived life to its fullest. He beamed with pride and love for each of his family members and never hesitated to tell each of them (and everyone else) how proud he was of all of them and how much he loved them. He left so many with countless memories of love, laughter and fun.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Dorothy; children, Drew (Gloria) Newton, Tucson, AZ, Del Newton, North Liberty, IA, Dawn Newton (Eric Ryden), Moline, and Denise Krone, Moline; grandchildren, Derek (Amanda) Newton, Cary (Christy) Cox, Katie (Scott) Cornelis, Chad (Annie) Cox, Andy (Shari) Newton, Jackie (Matt) Franks, Curtis (Sara) Cox, Travis (Sarah) Newton, Deven (Carolina) Newton, Mary Jo (Ryan) Trimble, Shaina (Dan) Klinglesmith, Tommy Krone, Chet (Courtney) Cox, Anthony Krone, and step-grandchildren (Amanda and Nick Schroder); 27 great-grandchildren; 2 step-great-grandchildren; brother, LeRoy (Carol) Newton; brother-in-law, Leland Stiles; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
