Susan K. Goethals DeVolder

December 13, 1948-December 31, 2022

MOLINE-Susan K. Goethals DeVolder of Moline passed away at the age of 74 on Saturday, December 31st.

A memorial celebration of Sue's life will be held at Van Hoe Funeral Home in East Moline on Monday, January 9th from 3 till 5 PM. Interment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, East Moline on Tuesday, January 10th at 10:00 AM. Memorials may be made to the ALS Association- Greater Chicago Chapter, Moline High School Athletics or QC Paws (Rock Island County Animal Care & Control).

Sue was born December 13, 1948. She is the daughter of Camiel and Evelyn (DeBoever) Goethals of Moline. Sue is a 1966 graduate of Alleman High School. After graduation, Sue worked at the Rock Island Arsenal for the Defense Finance & Accounting Service, DFAS, concluding her 39 year career as a supervisor.

After retirement, Sue was a volunteer tutor in the Moline Public Schools (Butterworth and Wilson). Her students will remember that she gave each student a Whitey's gift card on their birthday.

Sue is survived by her son, Tom DeVolder, who was the joy of her life. Family was very important to her. Sue is preceded in death by her parents and her brother Michael Goethals. She is survived by her brother, James Goethals, his wife Susan of NC and her niece Megan Ambrogi, and nephews, Jeff and Andrew Goethals.

Sue was an avid sports fan, especially Moline HS girls' basketball-the Lady Maroons and Iowa Hawkeyes. She enjoyed the bike races, hockey games, go-cart races, gardening and of course, Bud Light. She was blessed with the support of many good friends.

Sue was a supporter of QC Paws and had many cats herself.

Sue was my first supervisor when I moved to Iowa back in...oh so many years ago. She was such a pleasant, fun-filled, and yet hard-working workmate! Whole hearted condolence to Tom and the family for the loss. All those memories of her will stay within all of us. Rest in peace, Sue. You´ve had a good life!
