Rick DeVolder, 66, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away on the afternoon of September 14, 2024 in the midst of watching his grandson play football in the comfort of his own home and under the care of Iowa River Hospice.
Private graveside services for Rick will be held. He will be laid to rest at Riverside Cemetery in Marshalltown. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Rick's name may be directed to Iowa River Hospice Home. Rick Joseph DeVolder was born May 18, 1958 in Fort Dodge, Iowa. He was born to Daniel and Jean (Eike) DeVolder. Rick's mother passed at an early age and his dad was re married to JoAnn Hoffman and they raised Rick together along with her children. He moved to Marshalltown with his family in 1966 and Rick attended school at Marshalltown graduating with the Class of 1976. Rick furthered his education at the University of North Dakota and transferred to Iowa State University to finish.
Rick was united in marriage to the love of his life, Kristine Dostal on April 25, 1981 at St. Henry Catholic Church in Marshalltown. They made their home together in Marshalltown and from this union came two children, Beth and Ross. Rick supported his family doing over the road trucking for various companies over the years including, Diamond Vogel, H and F Distributing, Emerson, and lastly Ruan Transportation. He and Kristine were married 30 years until the time of her passing in 2012. Rick retired in 2020 due to his health. In his free time, he loved to go hunting and fishing. When one season wasn't going on he was going to do the other. After retirement, Rick was able to attend as many of his grandchildren's sporting events as he could. In younger years, he enjoyed going out for rides on his bicycle.
Those left to remember and cherish his memory are his children, Beth (Wade Judge) DeVolder-Judge of Marshalltown, IA and Ross (Jodi) DeVolder of Woodbury, MN; grandchildren, Aidan DeVolder, Finley Judge, Declan Judge, Isla Judge, Brenna Judge, Maren DeVolder, Emmett DeVolder and Hank DeVolder; his mother, JoAnn DeVolder; siblings, Dave (Val) DeVolder of Missouri, Steve (Stephanie) DeVolder of Iowa, Mark (Bibiana) DeVolder of Canada and Mike (Kimberly) DeVolder of Florida; his father-in-law, Melvin Dostal and sisters and brothers-in-law, Sue (Don) Sears of Iowa, Sandy (Rich) Nauman of Iowa and Brian (Suzette) Dostal of Iowa; alongside numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Kristine; his father Daniel DeVolder; his mother-in-law, Rosalie Dostal; and his birth mother Jean DeVolder.
