Patricia E. DeVolder, 89, of South Bend, IN passed away on Wednesday, January 3, 2024. Patricia was born in South Bend, IN on February 12, 1934, to the late John and Martha (Sexton) Morse.
She met the love of her life, Rudy DeVolder, on the beach at Warren Dunes State Park in Michigan. On October 3, 1953, she married Rudy in Christ the King Church. They had a loving and beautiful life together with their 7 children and many friends and family. Rudy preceded her in death in 1999.
Patricia is survived by her children, Mari Kay (Gary) McStay, Maureen (Bob) Jamieson, Marcia (Paul) Abrams, Andy (Maria) DeVolder and Patrick DeVolder; 7 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; brother, John (Rose) Morse; sister, Anita Morse; and son-in-law, Ed Knapp. Patricia is preceded in death by her daughter, Martha Knapp and son, John DeVolder.
Patricia was beloved by her large and loving family of numerous cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents and many other family friends and neighbors. She attentively and lovingly supported each and every member of her family and was everyone's favorite neighbor.
Patricia was an uplifting and radiant soul who was able to brighten any room. Her home and heart were open to all - making everyone who knew her feel welcome and loved. She was known for her warm humor and beautiful smile. In addition to her beauty and brightness, Patricia was known for her devotion to her community and faith. She consistently showed her devotion through her generous donation of her time and talents to her church, her community and her loved ones. She was known for her leadership and involvement in several clubs at Washington Clay High School (class of 1952) including the Booster Club, Etiquette Club and the Class Play. She was also a longtime parishioner of Christ the King Church and leader of many committees and volunteer organizations.
She was involved with the Junior Baseball Association and the Clay High School baseball team devoting her time and resources to support and uplift the team. She also volunteered for many years for the Word of Honor Fund.
She will be deeply missed by her longtime bridge club who met regularly for over 50 years.
She was an avid gardener and known for her beautiful gardens of iris, peonies and hibiscus. She also loved to travel - traveling all over the United States and Europe with her loved ones.
She was a fierce fan of the Notre Dame Women's Basketball team and dutifully supported the team by volunteering, attending and traveling to games and cheering on the players. Cheering alongside her at every game was her longtime best friend and fellow ND fan Judie Miller. Patricia will be dearly missed by her loved ones and her community. She will be remembered in the hearts of all those whose lives were greater for knowing her.
The family will receive friends from 4 pm-7 pm (Rosary at 6pm) on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, at Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka.
