Tom was the kind of neighbor everyone wanted. I first met him when I was up on a ladder cleaning out my elderly lady's gutters. Tom came walking by, having recently moved into our neighborhood and was out meeting people. That day, I made a most intriguing friend as he invited myself and the neighbor lady over to see his ancestry research books, as well as the amazingly detailed ship he had constructed. He found out I was a teacher, and for several years he loaned his ship to our school where my students were fascinated with the details.
I remember how excited Tom was to go on the veterans' honor flight to Washington, D.C. a few years back.... and how excited we were to line the walkway in the airport and give a Vietnam veteran a proper welcome home.
I was saddened to hear of his passing just a few days ago. Thank you to Jacki and Misty for allowing me to pray with Tom in the hospital. . .and for sharing your dad with all of us in his retirement years. My heartfelt prayers are with you and your families.
