The celebration will continue Saturday, November 5, with visitation at 10:00 a.m. followed by services at 11:00 a.m. at Progressive Baptist Church, Davenport. Officiating will be Pastor Brenton Earl MDiv, of New Jerusalem FG Church, Muscatine, Iowa, and pastor Dr. Donald J. Johnson of Destiny Baptist Church, Rock Island.
Acie was born on May 27, 1947 to Glennie Sr. and Ruby Lee (Treadwell) Earl in Stonewall, Mississippi.
As a child, he gave his life to Christ at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Hammond, Indiana. He became an ordained Deacon at Progressive Baptist Church on October 26, 1980, and served faithfully up to his day of death, leaving his home church to carry on the work of the Lord.
Acie was the oldest of his siblings, Barbara, Leon, Glenn Jr., and Mark, and always set a strong example for them to follow into adulthood. He completed elementary school and graduated from Hammond High School in 1965. He attended Augustana College in Rock Island, IL immediately following graduation on a football scholarship, graduating on May 25, 1969, with a Degree in Business Administration. He earned a Masters of Arts Degree in Business Administration in August of 1989 from Central Michigan University.
On Saturday, July 22, 1967, Acie was married to Carolyn Earl and they spent 52 years together prior to her passing on October 6, 2018. Together, they had four sons, Acie II (Tiffani), Brenton I, Chad (Tabia), and Dorian (Agustina). Acie was "Papa" to 14 grandchildren and one great-grandson, who he always found time to roughhouse with and tell stories to. Acie and Carolyn loved their family, friends, and community, and cherished bringing everyone together for holidays and family traditions.
Acie worked at Black Hawk College for 48 years, teaching Business and Economics. There was never a time he wouldn't stay late to answer a student's question or work through a business math problem. He retired in July of 2021 and was granted Professor Emeritus in May of 2022. Following retirement, he enjoyed traveling and seeing his favorite musical artists from Motown.
Acie was an active member of Progressive Baptist Church in Davenport, IA. He served as the Chairman of the Deacon Ministry for over 30 years. He also enjoyed teaching Sunday school, bible study, and Lunch Break in the Word. Deacon Earl also served as Dean of Students at Quad City Theological Center (formerly known as ABT, Nashville, Tennessee) for seven years, and taught various bible classes at the school for over 45 years.
Acie will always be remembered for his work ethic and the example he set for those around him. Acie was the first of his family to attend a four-year university and by doing so, changed the trajectory of the Earl family for generations to come. He will be remembered by those closest to him for always having a good analogy, his magical tooth pulling skills, the classic "Moline" sweatshirt, and the many stories and memories we have been blessed to share over the course of his life.
Acie is survived by his children, Acie II (Tiffani), Brenton I, Chad (Tabia), Dorian (Agustina), and Godson Rob "Lil' Sizzler" Slaughter. He was "Papa" to Kendra, Kenya, Keonna, Kacie, Acie Kareem, Kiah, Zaiya, Zione, Braxton, Brenton Il, Chase, Winston, Vincent, Julian, and great-grandfather to Kash. He is also survived by siblings, Barbara (John) Brooks, Mark (Cheryl) Earl, and Glen (Jacqueline) Earl; and a sister-in-law, Zandra Earl. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carolyn; a brother, Leon Earl; and his parents.

Although I took his business math class about 30 years ago, I have never forgotten Mr. Earl's great skill at teaching the most math averse student, and I have invoked his name many times over the years as the only reason I know anything about how to use math in the real world. His methods and practical applications were a revelation to me and I am so grateful for the skills he instilled in me. I am sorry for the family's loss of a great man who touched so many lives.

Sincere condolences to the family and friends. Acie and I first became friends at Augustana College. Our friendship continued throughout the years. Later in life we were co-workers at Black Hawk College for many years. Our children attended school together. I am grateful to have known Acie, his lovely wife Carolyn, and family. Acie contributed so much to the Quad City community. Including the faith community. He was a big man with a huge heart, a preciseness, and a sense of responsibility. He truly was an honorable man. As Acie takes his rest in the arms of our Lord and Savior, I send love and prayers to his family. Maxine Ross

During my twenty two year career at BHC I had numerous chats with Mr Earl about, you guessed it, basketball. He taught business and economics at the Hawk but he loved talking basketball. My condolences to his family and close friends. Jaime Delevere

My most heartfelt condolences go out to the families of Deacon Earl and, most certainly, to the Progressive Baptist Church Family. I am saddened to hear of his passing but I grin from ear to ear having been blessed to personally know this 'Big Man'. LOL Since officially joining the Progressive Church family in 1974 at the age of 18, Pastor Emmett L. Wiseman, Jr. presiding, I have been greeted with Deacon Earl's humongous smile as much as anyone. May his long list of memories also be your blessings. Rest in Peace Deacon Earl for you, sir, have reached your highest ground...

My deepest condolences to the whole family. Mr. Earl was the best Business Math teacher at Black Hawk. He could make everyone understand with his great stories. He always had time to help any and all students who asked.
