Gerald Werthmann Obituary

Gerald Edward Werthmann

November 2, 1957-August 30, 2022

It is with great sorrow that the family of Gerald Edward Werthmann, 64, announces his passing on August 30, 2022 at home in Portland, Texas after a brief battle with Cancer.

Gerry was born on November 2, 1957 in Davenport, Iowa to Edward and Theresa Werthmann. Gerry attended Holy Family School, Assumption High School and Central High School where he graduated in 1976. He attended St. Ambrose University where he served as Class President and graduated with a degree in Mass Communications.

Gerry married Roj Ann Kempster on August 27, 1983 in Rapatee, IL, they renewed their vows at Holy Family Church on March 23, 1985. They later divorced but had two children together, Roger and Melinda (Mindi).

Gerry spent his employment years working hard and using his charisma to make all those around him laugh. He worked in the Quad Cities at The Davenport Club, Rock Island Arsenal Golf Club, and Oakwood Country Club. In Galesburg at Soangetaha Country Club and Steak 'n Shake. He then relocated to Texas to be closer to family and worked as a Manager at Whataburger as his retirement job.

Gerry loved the beach, amusement parks, music, movies, sporting events -he was an avid Bears, Bulls and Hawkeye fan. He was a jokester and loved telling jokes even bad Dad jokes as he called them. Most of all, he loved spending time with his children and his six grandchildren who were undoubtedly his whole world. He devoted his life to making memories with his family.

Those left to honor his memory include his children; Roger (Dawn) Werthmann of Houston, TX, Mindi (J.R.) Rosson of Portland, TX, his stepson Rick (Michele) Percy of Moline, IL, grandchildren; Meika, Isiah, Jadie, Josslyn, James and Jonathan Edward, his sister Kathryn Werthmann Quinn of Tampa, FL, brother Kenneth Werthmann of Moline, IL and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Theresa Werthmann, his grandparents and numerous Aunts and Uncles.

Per Gerry's wishes, cremation rites will be accorded and no funeral services will be held. Arrangements are under the direction and personal care of the professionals at Winsteads' Funeral Home. (361) 643-6564 www.winsteadsfuneralhome.com

I am so sorry for the loss of Gerry. He was my boss at Steak N shake and he gave me the opportunity to advance at the restaurant. He was one of the best bosses I have ever had the pleasure to work for. He was always there when I had a problem and he helped me through many many troubled times. I will miss him dearly.
