MOLINE-James Narcissus De Wulf, 82, of Moline, IL and Kennesaw, GA passed away Friday, December 7, 2018 at his home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11am, Friday, December 14, 2018 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Moline, IL, where he was a long-time member. Visitation will be held from 9:00am to 10:30am Friday at Rafferty Funeral Home, 2111-1st St A, Moline. Burial will follow at the Rock Island National Cemetery with military honors conducted by American Legion Post 246, Moline.
Jim was born March 14, 1936 in Moline, IL, the son of Narcissus James and Ann (De Doncker) De Wulf. He married Judith Meyers on August 17, 1963 in Ft. Leonard Wood, MO. She preceded him in death on December 4, 1995.
Jim was a three-year starter for both Alleman High School, Rock Island and (Chicago) Loyola University basketball teams. During his prep career, he earned all-state honors as a senior from both the Chicago Daily News and the Champaign News-Gazette. At the time of his graduation, Jim held the Alleman record for scoring average (23.4 ppg), points in a season (587), rebounds in a season (504) and rebounds in a game (31). At Loyola, Jim served as the Rambler co-captain in 1958. Jim was inducted into the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association (IBCA) Hall of Fame in 1978.
Jim attended DePaul University where he obtained his Juris Doctorate degree. Upon graduating from DePaul University he served as an officer in the US Army Judge Advocate General's Corps.
Jim was a member of the Illinois Bar Association. He was elected and served as the Rock Island County State's Attorney from 1968-1972. He enjoyed a long and successful career in private practice.
Jim enjoyed golfing, watching his grandchildren play sports, and was an avid follower of all things sports.
Survivors include his children, Victoria (Thomas) Boney, Brookhaven, GA; Jim (Kelley) De Wulf, Huntley, IL and Suzanne (Scott) Mehaffy, Kennesaw, GA; 8 grandchildren; a brother, Joseph De Wulf DDS, Madison, WI. In addition to his wife Judy, Jim was preceded in death by his parents. Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association or the Alleman High School Scholarship Fund, and condolences may be left at www.RaffertyFunerals.com.
