Karen Harris Obituary

Karen Harris

September 14, 1947 - March 15, 2025

Karen Harris, 77, of Walcott, passed away, Saturday, March 15, 2025, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 24, 2025, at 11 a.m., at Halligan-McCabe-De Vries Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 23, 2025, from 2 to 5 p.m., at the funeral home. Burial will be at Davenport Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Walcott American Legion Post 548 or Batting for Kids, Inc.

Karen was born on September 14, 1947, in Davenport, daughter of Lester and Mary (Padeskie) Dengler. Karen graduated from Davenport Central High School in 1965. It was there that she met her high school sweetheart, Allen Harris. They were united in marriage on September 2, 1967.

Being a proud Navy wife gave Karen the opportunity to live in several places, including Southern Maryland and Tennessee. Karen and Allen enjoyed living life to the fullest and made many cherished memories and friends during that time. But as their family started to grow, they decided to move back to Davenport to be closer to both their families. Karen and Allen started their family business and soon were blessed with four little ones running around the house. In 1994, Karen and Allen decided to move out of Davenport to live on "The Farm." They purchased an old farmhouse and, with the help of family and friends, remodeled it into the dream home she had always wanted.

Karen enjoyed traveling to races and attending any events for her children and grandchildren. She had a way of making any event special. She always looked forward to her winters down south where she could be found walking along the beach collecting shells or listening to live music. On Wednesday nights, she could be found spending time with her crafting friends' group "Stitch-N-Bitch" that met over multiple decades. Karen was a member of the Walcott American Legion Auxiliary, Walcott Women, and a spent over 30 years volunteering at The Bix.

Above all, she loved her family and cherished the time spent with them. She will be deeply missed.

Those left to honor her memory include her loving husband, Allen; children, Jeff (Amber) Harris, Kelly (Joe) Quick, Brian (Dana Marrocco) Harris and Allison Harris; grandchildren, Jamie, Sydnie, Hannah, Colby, Quincy, Henry, Abigail, Taylor, Emerson, Noemi, Gisele, and Ava; siblings, David and Susan; and many special friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Wayne Dengler; brother-in-law, Rick Schroeder; sister-in-law, Janine Labath; and grandson, Abraham Harris.

The family would like to send special thanks to all the wonderful healthcare professionals that cared for Karen, including Dr. Friemel, the nurses at Iowa Cancer Specialists, and the staff at MercyOne Genesis Hospice and Palliative Care. The family also extends their gratitude to the many friends that supported Karen during her fight.
