Roger Rittmer Obituary
November 2, 1935 - August 9, 2024
Roger M. Rittmer, 88, of Davenport, IA passed away Friday, August 9, 2024. Cremation will be done with the family greeting friends 10:00am to 12:00pm Saturday, August 17, 2024 at the First Congregational United Church of Christ DeWitt, IA. A celebration of life will be held 12:00pm at the church. There will also be a celebration of Life 2:00pm Sunday, August 18, 2024 in the Koening Chapel, Ridgecrest Village. Roger loved flowers and bright colors, please feel free to dress casually and comfortably. Memorials in Roger's name may be made to the Ridgecrest Foundation and condolences may be shared at www.rungemortuary.com.
Roger was born November 2, 1935 in Clinton, IA to Marvin & Evelyn (Meinert) Rittmer. He was united in marriage to Patricia Smith on September 5, 1954, she preceded him in death in 1995. He then married Janice Olson-Williams on January 3, 1997 in Davenport, IA.
Roger had started out in farming but turned to upholstery and ran Rittmer Upholstery for 50 plus years, never really retiring. He was known for his exceptional upholstery & wood working skills. Roger had a high energy level and an unrelenting work ethic. He had been a master gardener, which helped him when he became a resident at Ridgecrest where he oversaw the plants and willingly helped residents with all kinds of tasks.
Roger had been very active in all aspects of his church life at First Presbyterian in Davenport and First Congregational United Church of Christ in DeWitt. He was involved in many mission trips and took part in leadership roles of the church.
Survivors include his wife Jan Rittmer; daughters Susan (Steve) Hasenmiller & Sara (Pete) Grimm; sons Blaine (Jill) Rittmer & Brian (Stephanie) Rittmer; daughter-in-law Katie Rittmer; 4 stepsons Jay, Ward, Reed, & Clay Williams; numerous grandchildren; great grandchildren; & great great grandchildren.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents, wife Patricia, son Bruce Rittmer, and 2 sisters Donna Cousins & Eunice McCubbin.
