Robert Weir Obituary

Robert Farrell Weir January 31, 1947 - February 26, 2018 Rancho Santa Fe When you are a master builder, the fundamental aspects of your trade are so deeply embedded in your personality, character, and personal knowledge that they end up in the background of the incredible finishing touches of your work. Much like life, when you have developed innately the ability to love, to overcome all odds, to create joy and laughter, and to flourish, it becomes about finding your own way to express it. Once you do, your impact broadens to touch the lives of more people than you could have ever expected. This is the message of the life of Robert Farrell Weir, son of Jack and Connie Weir. He was born January 31, 1947 and passed February 26, 2018. A loving father to four children of whom he was incredibly proud. His love was the undercurrent upon which his adventures and connections with them flowed. A husband whose actions clearly expressed his deep love for his wife Susan. A brother to five sisters who hold his memory with the utmost respect and joyous laughter. A friend to many whom he provided with endless stories and good times. A testament to his negotiating skills and his tendencies towards unconventional diplomacy, he maintained an incredible relationship with his former wife and the step-father to her children. His life was painted with several crowning achievements in terms of both business and personal pursuits. In his early years, he joined the Navy and worked as a dental assistant. After his time in the Navy was complete he moved on to the trade of construction, working alongside his father, Jack Weir of Weir Bros. Construction. Robert eventually purchased the company from his father, and went on to complete several of the most challenging and impressive construction projects in the San Diego area; including the Razor House in La Jolla, the Viterbi Project in Rancho Santa Fe; several homes designed by renowned architects such as Wallace Cunningham and Dena Gillespie, the list goes on. In his personal life, Robert was a captain on the high seas of adventure. As a young man, he sailed to Australia and continued the nautical tradition throughout the course of his life. He sailed in regattas, went deep sea fishing all over the Pacific and completed speed missions across the channel to Catalina in almost every vessel imaginable. He spent copious amounts of time with his children and friends doing the things he loved, motorcycling, golfing, navigating lakes and rivers, snow and water skiing, once again, this list goes on. His wit and humor will remain as one of the strongest components of his legacy, a mischievous smirk never far from his lips. Robert lived this credo to the fullest extent, "Get busy living or get busy dying," he refused to spend any time doing the latter. His spirit will live on in all that knew him and he will never be forgotten. My heartfelt condolences. I spoke with Bob a few times, learning interesting details about the company history. My interest stems from owning a 1963 mod adobe home designed by his uncle Larry and built by his dad Jack in 1963. Bob was always very helpful, generous with his time and knowledge. May he rest in peace.
