Alice Olexa Obituary

In loving memory of Alice J. (Grubb) Olexa who passed away in her home on December 7, 2021 under the watchful care of her husband, James, and daughters, Shelly and Alison. Alice was born on a farm in Scarlett Mills on April 10, 1937; not far from her home in Geigertown where she resided for the past 60 years. She took pride in caring for her surroundings and could often be found sitting at her picture window enjoying the birds and the sunshine. Alice spent most of her life devoted to children with special needs, working as a paraprofessional at the Berks County Intermediate Unit and Twin Valley School District. She also worked part-time as a Salesclerk at Boscov’s for several years. In her spare time, Alice loved spending time at the beach, sunbathing and watching the shoreline in Lewes, Delaware. She also enjoyed making crafts with her friends Barbara, Peggy, Janice and Delores; all of whom preceded her in death. Her devoted friends, Madeline and Marlene, provided hearty conversations and support to Alice up until the very end of her life. Alice leaves behind her devoted family who will miss her dearly: her husband, Jim Olexa; son-in-law Steven Marino, husband of Shelly, and son-in-law Robert Danner, husband of Alison. Alice also leaves a legacy of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who had the privilege and fortune of having her in their lives: granddaughter, Raina Olexa, wife of Paul Fischl; grandson Sam Marino, partner of Marguerite Yohn; granddaughter Ashlynn Danner; great-grandsons Sebastian and Vincenzo; and great-granddaughters Ella and Anarose. She was predeceased by her parents, Edward and Louise Grubb, as well as two sisters, Valeria Trout and Geraldine Grubb, who are undoubtedly with her once again. Alice asked for a quiet farewell, with no special arrangements or formal services. To honor her life, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, PO Box 6, Geigertown, PA 19523. Dengler Funeral Home, Inc. in Birdsboro PA has assisted the family in fulfilling Alice’s wishes.
