Born Sept. 27, 1954, in Philadelphia Naval Hospital, he was the widower of Debra (Lyons) Gatz, who passed away in May 2000.
After 20 years of service, he retired from his job as director of motor vehicles for the city of Newport Beach, Calif.
A 1972 graduate of Daniel Boone High School, he served in the Navy, stationed in Annapolis, Md. He received a bachelor’s degree in engineering from California State University, San Bernardino.
He was a member of the Alano Club in Riverside, Calif.
He is survived by his parents, David T. Gatz, Birdsboro, and Jean M. Gatz, Robesonia; and three daughters: Tracy Cloak, Exeter Township, and her husband, Todd; and Rachel Gatz and Amy Gatz, both of Riverside, Calif.
Other survivors include two sisters, Susan Edmonds and husband, Michael, Emmaus, and Jean Molnar and husband, Robert, Robesonia; and a brother, Thomas Gatz and wife, Christine, Douglassville.
There also are two grandchildren, Emma and Jack Cloak; and several nieces and nephews: Korey Davis, Kristina, Andrew, Michelle and Kerrie Anne Edmonds; and Mitchell and Sarah Gatz.
Please join our family in celebrating the life of David Gatz on Saturday in Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, 905 Chestnut St., Union Township. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11 a.m. followed by a reception in the church hosted by the family. Please e-mail jeanmol@comcast .net for more information.

I was stationed in Annapolis with Dave and Debbie. I was in the Marines but still made friends with them. Many great memories/ I came home with Dave to Birdsboro for a weekend once. So sorry for the loss of both of them. Way too soon. My love to all of you.
