He was born July 7, 1945 in Philadelphia, the son of Walter and June Greth.
He attended schools in Reading, graduated from Albright College, Temple University, and received his PhD at The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio.
While David had a successful career, he always felt the two experiences he enjoyed the most were working as a tour escort while in his late teens and, more recently, volunteering with his wife for Yorkie rescue.
David had the unique gift of being able to translate his life experiences into entertaining stories and these experiences, along with many others provided hours of comic relief for his friends and family.
David donated his body to medical science. He had a very rare form of cancer and it was important to him that there be something positive as a result of it. He felt very strongly that we are put here to help others and, even through his illness, he made an effort to remain positive and was more concerned about others than himself.
He will be fondly remembered by his wife, Janina, and his children: Taryn and Nick Barker, and Meredith and Nick Sturgeon; his mother, June; two grandsons, Liam and Preston, and two grandbabies to be born in a few months.
At his request, there will be no formal services.

Dad and I are both saddened by this news. When we were little our families were so close. David was my first crush! Our folks did so much together. You are in our prayers.

Janina,
John and I are so sorry to hear of David's passing. John enjoyed sharing meals and meditations with David. We fondly remember you both at a dinner at our home and at a Buddhist picnic. Our condolences to your family.
