He was the beloved husband of 36 years and best friend of Margaret Kaiser Collins, and loving, proud and devoted father of two daughters, LT Marguerite Collins Mullen, USCG, Miami, Fla., and Catherine (Katie) Collins, Philadelphia, Pa., and father-in-law, of LT Timothy Mullen, USCG.
Ed was born in New Brunswick, N.J., son of the late
Edward M. Collins Jr. and Mary (Madden) Collins.
He graduated from St. Joseph's High School, Metuchen, N.J., and St. Joseph's University, Philadelphia, Pa. After working in food marketing and financial services industries, Ed received a J.D. from the Temple University School of Law in 1987 and served as law clerk to the Hon. Thomas J. Eshelman, Berks County Court of Common Pleas. He
practiced business law in Bucks and Berks Counties and was a partner in Roland & Schlegel, Reading, Pa., before
becoming the owner and president of Entrance Inc., in Leesport, Pa.
He is survived by three brothers: Michael (Bralee) Collins, Dallas, Texas; John (Barbara) Collins, Edina, Minn.; and James Collins, Edina, Minn.; his father and mother-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. Gerard Kaiser, Hershey, Pa.; five brothers and sisters-in-law: Gerry and Mary Jane Kaiser, St. Louis, Mo.; Greg and Cathleen Kaiser, Hummelstown, Pa.; Fran and Kathie Kaiser, Havertown, Pa.; Jim and Cristina Kaiser, Shaker Heights, Ohio; Nellie and Larry McGrew, Collingswood, N.J.; and many aunts, cousins, brothers- and sisters-in-law, nephews and nieces across the United States.
Ed was a member of Holy Guardian Angels Parish in Reading, Pa. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, past president and member of Rotary Club of Muhlenberg, Ancient Order of Hibernians, King's Men, Berks County Bar Association, past president of the Delaware Valley Chapter of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy Parents' Association and the Holy Guardian Angels CYO.
Ed was humble, kind, generous, intelligent and had a great and quick sense of humor. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, reading, history, politics, cooking, listening to rock and Celtic music, hiking, biking and kayaking, the Oakland Raiders, taking naps, watching TV and walking his dog, Sophie.
Ed dedicated his life to providing for others.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Guardian Angels Parish, 3121 Kutztown Road, Reading 19605, on Saturday, April 14, 2018, at 10:00 a.m.
The family will receive family and friends on Friday, April 13, 2018, from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. at Bean Funeral Home, 3825 Penn Ave., Sinking Spring, 19608.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ed's memory to Holy Guardian Angels Regional School, 3125 Kutztown Road, Hyde Park, Reading, PA 19605 or The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
