Joe Cam was one of my early heros. Growing up in Wyomissing Hills, we would go over to Joe's lot to look at all the exotic Morgans, Cobras, Triumphs, etc. Joe was always friendly and open to kids who shared his interest.
Years later I would see Joe and his wife at the Fairground Mall, when they brought the people from the Hiem (my dad) over for the summer concert. Joe remembered me, and that always made me feel good. God bless you sports car guy; there aren't many of us left.
One of my favorite stories of Joe was about 1967/8. A young man from Wyomissing from a wealthy family came to Joe's lot and told him that "If he got good grades, his father would buy him any car he wanted" and the kid wanted a 427 Cobra Joe had on the lot. Joe tried to talk the kid into a TR4 or something a little less lethal. The kid wouldn't give it up, so Joe said, bring your dad over, and we'll talk. The father came over, and told Joe that the son had not lied; he could have any car he wanted. Joe said that was fine, but the father had to take a ride with him in the Cobra. Joe said that it only took two or three gears, and the father tapped him on the arm and said that he understood - the son got a TR4.
