Kenneth Riegel Obituary

Kenneth Riegel, born in W. Hamburg, Age 85, died peacefully on June 28, 2023 at his home in Sarasota, FL. A world renown opera tenor he made his Metropolitan Opera debut in 1973 in the company premiere of "Les Troyens". He subsequently sang 105 performances at the Met and appeared at most of the important opera houses and with the major orchestras in the US and in Europe. He sang in the world premiere of "Songs of the Tulpehocken" in 1976 with the Reading Symphony and appeared with the orchestra many more times. In 1973 he received the Key of the City of Reading. Funeral services will take place on August 8 at the National Cemetery in Indiantown Gap, PA with internment of his ashes at the family grave in Womelsdorf, PA. at 2:00pm Survivors are: his sister Gloria Martin, nephew Tim Martin (Sue) and niece Michele Weaver (Tom) and his former manager and longtime friend Ludwig Brunner.
