Kenneth Snyder Obituary


Kenneth P. Snyder, 94, of Kutztown, died Sunday, July 31, 2016 in Berks Heim, Bern Township.

Kenneth was the husband of Erna F. (Furst) Snyder.

They were married June 5, 1948.

Born in Kutztown, Kenneth was a son of the late Paul and Verna (Hunsicker) Snyder.

A 1940 graduate of Kutztown High School, Kenneth

attended Kutztown University for one year.

Mr. Snyder was a member of Saint Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Kutztown.

He honorably and faithfully served our country as a Staff Sergeant of the 554th Bombardment Squadron in the Army Air Force during World War II. Kenneth was a tail gunner on a B-26 Marauder, completing 27 missions over France, England and Italy. He received the Distinguished Air Medal with three oak leaf clusters and the Bronze European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with five bronze stars.

Mr. Snyder was a member of Hoch-Balthaser Post 480 American Legion, Kutztown, and a former member of Kutztown Lions Club. Ken loved to fish, but golf was his true passion. He played the sport until he was 87 and won the first club championship and the first Merkel Memorial Tournament at Rich Maiden Golf Club, Fleetwood.

Kenneth first worked as a lithographer for Kutztown Publishing Company, Kutztown, then as a salesman for Konica of Long Island, Long Island, N.Y., concentrating in the sales of specialized industrial photography products. Kenneth retired in 1987.

Survivors: In addition to his wife of 68 years, Erna,

Kenneth is survived by three sons: Stephen K. Snyder,

Allentown; Kevin J. Snyder, Kutztown; and Peter J.

Snyder, New Schaefferstown, Berks County.

Other survivors include, three grandchildren: Elizabeth (Snyder), wife of Jeremy Stuckley; Stephanie (Snyder), wife of Jonathan Rubin; and Piera (Snyder), wife of Justin Moyer; and five great-grandchildren: Logan, Grant, Olivia, Gryffin and Gracie.

Services: A prayer service will be held on Monday,

August 8, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. from Ludwick Funeral Homes, Inc., 333 Greenwich Street, Kutztown, with Reverend Monsignor Walter T. Scheaffer, officiating. Inurnment will follow in Gethsemane Cemetery, Laureldale. Family and friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home.

Contributions: The family requests contributions be made in Kenneth's memory to St. Mary's R.C. Church, 14833 Kutztown Road, Kutztown, PA 19530 or Hoch-Balthaser Post 480, American Legion, P.O. Box 39,

Mr. Snyder was part of the greatest generation. Giving selflessly on the fields of battle so many years ago. His legacy will the world he helped create and the family he created and raised. May he rest in peace.
