Lavina Kostzewa

Lavina (Duggan) Kostzewa, 79, of Muhlenberg, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 10, 2021, in Berks Heim Nursing Home. She was the wife of John Kostzewa Jr., Muhlenberg. Born in Reading, she was the daughter of the late James and Mabel (Hartman) Duggan. Lavina graduated from Mt. Penn High School and was a member of St. Catharine of Siena R.C.C. She spent her career as an admission supervisor at St. Joseph Medical Center in Reading for 22 years until her retirement. Lavina was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was affectionately called “Pudge” or “Aunt Pudgy” by her family and friends. After retirement, Lavina’s favorite role was “Mommom” and she always supported her grandchildren at their many activities. She loved her beach trips to Maryland and Delaware. Lavina loved to decorate for any holiday, but Christmas was her favorite. Her faith and her care for others were central to who she was and she will be missed by all who loved her. In addition to her husband, Lavina is survived by son Kevin J. Duggan, husband of Carole, of Delaware, two daughters, Kimberly A. Gettis, widow of Mark Sr., of Muhlenberg, and Christina A. Floto, wife of Edmond, of Oley Township. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Mark Jr., husband of Natalie, of Harrisburg, Elizabeth A. Fick, wife of Andrew, of Leesport, Andrea Jones, wife of Andy, of Maryland, Katie Duggan of Philadelphia, and John Duggan of California, and great-grandchildren Hazel and Lincoln. She is also survived by her sister, Patricia A. Calcagno, of Laureldale. A private Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Catharine of Siena. Interment will be at Forest Hills Memorial Park, Exeter Township. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave, Fl. 17 Chicago, IL 60601.
