Marvin Berger Obituary


Marvin Lee Berger, 70, of Kutztown, died unexpectedly on Monday, November 2, 2015. He was the fiancé of Rachel K. (Meitzler) Woodhead, with whom he resided, and the former husband of Shirley E. (Gruber) Sohon, Shoemakersville.

Born in Maxatawny Township, he was a son of the late Clarence E. and Estella V. (Behm) Berger.

Mr. Berger was a member of the Lutheran congregation of Huff's Union Church, Alburtis, and a former member of Saint John's Lutheran Church, Kutztown.

He was a 1963 graduate of Kutztown Area High School, Kutztown.

He worked on the finishing line at East Penn Manufacturing Co., Inc., Lyon Station, for 25 years, retiring in 2009. Prior to that, he worked as a processor at the former A & B Meats, Allentown, for 14 years.

Marvin was well known in the Kutztown community, selling his strawberries and other produce at his local farmette. He was a member of Virginville Grange #1832, Virginville, where he enjoyed making funnel cakes at the annual Kutztown Fair. Marvin was an avid square dancer and enjoyed following and listening to The Majestics. He also enjoyed hunting and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Survivors: fiancé, Rachel; former wife, Shirley; son, Michael L., husband of Jennifer A. (Keinert) Berger, Kutztown; two daughters, Melinda L. (Berger), wife of Jeffrey L. Neidermyer, Sinking Spring, and Melanie A. (Berger), wife of Michael L. Myer, Lebanon; four brothers: Luther, husband of Shirley Berger, Fleetwood; Arlan, husband of Elaine Berger, Maxatawny Twp.; Neal, husband of Shirley Berger, Blandon; and Kermit, husband of Dianna Berger, Shartlesville. He is also survived by eight grandchildren: Ryan and Erica Berger; Preston and Evan Neidermyer; Kyle and Kayla Myer; and James and Jennavecia McCarthy.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 6, 2015, at 11:00 a.m., in Ludwick Funeral Homes, Inc., 333 Greenwich Street, Kutztown, with Reverend Jane M. Kropa, officiating. Interment will follow in Hope Cemetery, Kutztown. Relatives and friends may call on Friday morning, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., in the funeral home.

The family requests that contributions be made in Marvin's memory to Huff's Union Church C.I.F. Fund, 540 Conrad Road, Alburtis, PA 18011.
