He was the husband of Marie E. (Thren) Loeper.
Born in Reading, he was a son of the late Philip and Margaret (Mayer) Loeper.
He was a graduate of Reading Catholic High School in 1940, Wyomissing Polytech-nical Institute in 1942 and Cornell University in 1947.
Prior to his retirement in 1985, he was employed for 28 years by Lucent Technology as a Senior Mechanical Engineer.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during WWII.
Robert was an active
member of St. Margaret's Roman Catholic Church where he was on the Church Council. He also served as a Lector and Eucharistic Minister.
Robert was an executive board member of the Boy Scouts of America Hawk Mountain Council.
He was a 1962 recipient of the Boy Scouts Silver Beaver Award and the Catholic Scouting St. George Award.
He was president of the Holy Name Society.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons: Robert M. Loeper, partner of Gary Snyder, Wynnewood, PA, Michael A. Loe-per, husband of Eileen Burke, Glenside, PA, and Mark A. Loeper, Cuyahoga Falls, OH; four daughters: Patricia A., wife of Charles Kerschner, Leesport, Margaret M., wife of S. Carl Readinger, Schnecksville, Nancy L. Smith, companion of Roy Ziegler, Reading, and Mary Ann, wife of Robert Fischer, Ringwood, N.J.
Also surviving are three brothers: John E., husband of Jean Loeper, Sinking Spring, Philip T., husband of Helen Loeper, Albuquerque, N.M., and Thomas E., husband of Peggy Loeper, Richmond, VA; two sisters, Virginia, widow of George Ar-entz, Reading, and Jeannette, wife of Robert Ru-bright, Wyomissing; 14 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Marian Loe-per, Rochester, N.Y, and La-Rue Loeper, Temple; and his brother-in-law, Francis Mc-Donald, Shillington.
Robert was predeceased by two brothers, Carl Loe-per and Paul Loeper; and his sister, Elizabeth McDonald.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. in St. Margaret's R.C. Church, 925 Centre Ave., Reading, PA 19601. Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 5:30 to 8 p.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Ave., West Reading, PA 19611.
