Shirley Watts Obituary

MERIDEN - Shirley May (Costello) Watts, 97, of Meriden, wife of the late Walter A. Watts, died on Thursday, Sept. 4, 2014, at the Meriden Center after a brief illness.

Born in Meriden on Nov. 17, 1916, the daughter of the late Harold and Elsie (Guertin) Oliver, she had resided in Meriden for her entire life. Shirley graduated from local schools and was a graduate of Meriden High School, class of 1933. Mrs. Watts was employed by the City of Meriden at Platt High School for over 15 years until her retirement. She was a parishioner of St. Joseph Church.

She is survived by three sons, Lorin Costello and his wife, Donna, of Southington, Donald T. Costello, of North Branford and Jack Costello and his wife, Jane, of Meriden; six grandchildren, Denise Kupstis, Jody Dufresne, Donald T. Costello Jr., Mary Margaret Costello, Edmund Costello and Shannon Costello; and six great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and Chase Costello, Kaleigh and Kyle Kupstis, Rachel and Trevor Dufresne.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend a funeral service to be held on Tuesday Sept. 9, at 11 a.m. at the John J. Ferry and Sons Funeral Home at 88 E. Main St., Meriden. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday morning prior to the service from 9:30 to 11 a.m. For online condolences, please visit www.jferryfh.com.
