Wayne Wright Obituary

Wayne Anthony Wright, 51, of Meriden, passed away June 30, 2023, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Wayne was born in Meriden on September 8, 1971 and was the son of Sandra Wright and the late Wayne Steven Wright.

Wayne was a graduate of Francis T. Maloney High School, Class of 1989. He attended Mattatuck Community College, Central CT State University and University of Maryland with a concentration in Business.

Wayne's vast career was in Sales, Banking and Finance. He was an accomplished salesman with the customer being his number one priority. In doing so, Wayne received several outstanding achievement awards and promotions over the years.

As a talented athlete, Wayne excelled in baseball, from Jack Barry Little League championships to Maloney Highschool State Finals. He made many wonderful memories on the baseball field. Wayne was an avid fan of the Yankees and the Miami Dolphins. He also enjoyed golfing, fishing and the beach.

Along his life's journey, Wayne made many lifelong friends who loved and supported him over the years, in good times and during the most difficult ones. He truly cherished those friendships.

The family would like to acknowledge the excellent care given to Wayne by his surgeons Dr. Patel, Dr. Kuwada and their staff, along with his oncologist Dr. LeLe and the entire nursing staff at MidState, who treated Wayne with kindness and compassion throughout his treatments.

Besides his mother Sandra of Meriden, he is survived by his sister Renay Wright of Meriden, his brother Darren Wright and his wife Beth and his niece Cassondra Wright of Southington and his grandmother Barbara Wright of Boynton Beach, FL. He is also survived by his aunt and several uncles and cousins. He is predeceased by his grandparents Henry and Veronica Bonanzinga, uncle Paul Bonanzinga and grandfather Frank Wright.

A celebration of Wayne's life will be planned in September and details will be shared at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in his memory to the Boys and Girls Club of Meriden, 15 Lincoln St., Meriden CT 06451 or at bgcmeriden.org. Heartbroken over the passing of my lifelong friend Wayne and sending my thoughts, love and prayers to the Wright family and close friends who have cared for him this past year. Thank you all for that support. Wayne and I shared an unbreakable bond as kids and through our graduation from Maloney in 89. We were tight both in and out of school, but especially on the baseball field, where we exchanged throws across the diamond (him at third base, me at first) for more than a decade. From Little League through the state final in high school, I dont think I ever took another throw from anyone else at that position. He was a superstar. He hit .530 in his final year playing for my Dad in LL and helped us win 3 titles in 4 years. And he was pivotal in helping us finish No. 3 in the state and getting to that state final in high school. He played at only one level ... hard. He hit the ball hard and threw it harder. He once threw a ball off the dirt infield at Maloney that bounced up and cracked two of my ribs. Wish I could get in front of one of those throws again, big guy ... Beyond the wins, the fights, the high fives and the laughs on the diamond, we were great friends off the field. Our families were super close and I miss those gatherings. It was ... the best of times for both of us and I'll always remember them fondly. Most of all, I'll remember this smile, this crazy good tan, that mighty swing, and that one of a kind brashness. You were a rock star who lived life to the fullest. May you enjoy a game or two up there with your dad and my dad watching. Just keep those throws up! Rest peacefully my man.

We are so sorry to learn of Wayne´s passing. My husband and I worked with Wayne at G.Fox back in the day when we were just a bunch of kids having the time of our lives. Wayne was a super sweet guy and a fun person to be around. We remember him dressed to the nines as a salesperson in men´s department. It´s been a number of years since we last saw Wayne, but he definitely made a lasting impression on us. I hope he is at peace now. Our deepest condolences.

I condolences to the Wright family and friends of Wayne. I coached him for American legion baseball back in the late 80s. A fierce competitor who always came prepared to play. He always wanted more swings in the batting cage. And more ground balls at third base to perfect is craft. He will be greatly missed.
