I met Sergeant First Class Martinbeault when I was a young officer in my first command. We were in Baumholder, Germany, waiting for the weather to clear so that we could fly to Italy, and then on to Bosnia. The troops were getting restless waiting around, so Alan organized movie nights. We watched "Crimson Tide," a movie about mutiny aboard a Navy submarine. The critical scene occurred when the Chief of the Boat, a non-commissioned officer, ordered the ship's captain to be arrested. Alan nudged me, and said with a smile, "It's your command, Sir. But never forget that the NCOs run the boat." As was so often the case, Alan gave me good advice with good humor mixed in. I learned so much from him. I'm sorry that he's gone, and grateful that I learned from him.

I got to know Alan and his family while he was stationed in Mainz / Germany. We often visited each other, played cards or celebrated Thanks Giving. We often went to US car shows together. I was shocked to find his obituary notice while doing some internet research.

I served with Alan in the Army (A25 Wolfpack). He was a true soldier, tough as nails but fair to a fault! As a person Al was the kind of person that people just gravitated to, or sought out for advice. It is a sad day, and our hearts go out his family. He will truly be missed. God bless.

Teri, Ashlee and Family - you are all in our thoughts. If you need anything Teri please feel free we will be there. Alan created some wonderful memories with the kids this year which I know they will cherish always. We will always picture him on their back porch chilling. Heres a little poem in his honor.

Heaven Has One More Hero

Upon this earth I served with pride
I fought for the red, white and blue
There were many days I was not home
But I always returned home to you

When Heaven needed a soldier
I stepped up to answer the call
God's Army is so beautiful
You should see them standing tall.

There are no wars in Heaven
No pain or suffering
We gather all the soldiers
Just to hear the angels sing

I am serving in God's Army now
I am proud, for Him I strive
To serve His Holy Kingdom
In Christ, I am alive.

I had the distinct honor and pleasure to serve with Master Sergeant Alan Martinbeault in A/25 FA Wolfpack, in Germany and Bosnia. Alan was a fearless and capable leader, quick to get things done, and also quick with a joke or quip to keep up morale. He will be missed.
