GREENFIELD - On Sunday, September 25, 2016, the lives of Brian Edward Tower and his beloved wife, Florenda Patricia (Houle) Tower were lost, as a result of an early morning fire in their home at 140 Meridan Street. Also lost in this tragic event, were the lives of Florenda's son, Raymond W. Wood, and their grandson, William P. Clark. Brian and Florenda were married on June 27, 2005 in Northampton, MA, and recently celebrated their 11th wedding anniversary this past June.
Florenda or ""Florry"" as she was affectionately known, was born on April 29, 1967 in Holyoke, MA and was educated in Holyoke Public Schools, later Greenfield Public Schools and was a graduate of GHS in the Class of 1985. She attended the former William Dean Technical School in Holyoke, MA, where she obtained her Certified Nursing Assistant certificate. Florenda worked for several years as a personal care attendant for those with disabilities at Stavros. She enjoyed shopping, casino trips, visiting the coast of Maine, dining out, concerts and attending the Big E each year with her husband Brian and their family.
Brian, known as ""Smiley"" or ""BT"" to those closest to him, was born on November 7, 1967 in Hartford, CT, and was educated in Enfield (CT) Public Schools, Colrain (MA) Public Schools and was a graduate of the Franklin County Technical School (FCTS) in the Class of 1985. Brian furthered his education by attending Suffolk University. He was employed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Massachusetts State Police as a radio maintenance technician since 1988, working out of the Northampton Headquarters of Troop B., where he was recognized for his dedicated service for the past 28 years. He was a devoted New England Patriots' fan and season ticket holder. He enjoyed, computers, cooking, Sci-Fi and Star Wars movies, trips to the casino, dining out and visiting the coast of Maine. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Greenfield, MA.
They are remembered by their loving families who include Brian's parents: Stanley E. and Phyllis V. Tower of Colrain, MA, his sister Michelle L. Ozdarski and her husband Rick and their sons, Ryan and Zachary of Greenfield, MA, as well as Florry's siblings: Her sister Helen M. (Houle) Tonkins, of Smyrna, Delaware and her brother Kenneth Houle and his wife Edna, of Felton, Delaware, in addition to her nieces and nephews: Angela, Luke, Larry, Christina, and grandnieces and grandnephews: Jordan, Katelynn, Lilly, Tyler, Destany, Brianna, Austin, Isaac, Nathan and Audrey and her Aunt Millie Turcotte. She is also remembered with great affection by her life-long friend Eliza Faille, as well as Bonnie and Chris Reitz, whose daughter Patricia is Florry and Brian's godchild. Brian was predeceased by his maternal and paternal grandparents, as well as his brother David Allen Tower, in May of 1973. Florry was predeceased by her mother Helen E. (Krajewski) Houle, as well as by her brothers: William and Joseph Houle.
Services in celebration of their lives will be observed on Saturday, October 8, 2016 at 10:00AM, from St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 23 Long Avenue, Greenfield, MA, with Rev. Jeffrey Galbraith, Pastor, as the officiant. A reception will follow in the fellowship hall of the church. Private committal services and inurnment will take place in the West Branch Cemetery, Colrain, MA. Visiting hours are omitted.
It is suggested that flowers be omitted and as an expression of affection in memory of Florry and Brian, a charitable contribution be considered to either the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, 60 East 56th Street, 8th Floor, New York, NY 10022 or to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 23 Long Avenue, Greenfield, MA 01301 or to State Police Association of Massachusetts, 11 Beacon Street, Suite 700, Boston, MA 02108.
