Daniel Taub Obituary

NORTH BENNINGTON, Vt. - Daniel Taub passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, April 11th in the arms of his family.
Daniel was born in Los Angeles, California on June 22, 1961 to Lee Taub and Florence Berger Taub. At age six he moved to New York City. Growing up, he enjoyed all the city had to offer. He loved its museums, and attending theater and concerts. He was an avid reader of the New York Times, continuing his subscription even while he attended summer camp in the Berkshires. He shared his love of the City with his wife and daughters and enjoyed exploring its neighborhoods with them throughout their lives together.
After graduating from Wesleyan University and the University of Chicago Law School, Dan practiced law in Chicago as a guardian ad litem for abused and neglected children before relocating to Vermont in 1992. After moving to Vermont, Dan discovered a love for rural life, becoming an avid gardener, canner, and pickler. He loved to cook and delighted his family with recipes from around the world.
Dan spent most of the last 25 years lovingly raising his two daughters. He was an amazing father. He enthusiastically took his daughters to "mommy and me" groups and father/child art classes at the Vermont Arts Exchange. He volunteered for many years with the Environmental Learning for the Future program at the North Bennington Graded School. He attended countless field hockey and lacrosse games from middle school through college to watch his daughters play. He loved arranging trips for his wife and daughters and with them explored nineteen countries on four continents. Dan always kept his family entertained with his wit and humor.
Dan was also committed to civic life, volunteering for many political campaigns, interning for Senator Edward Kennedy, and serving for the past several years as the zoning administrator in North Bennington. He served on various committees at Temple Beth El over the years.
In addition to his prized collection of over four thousand books, Dan leaves behind his wife and partner of thirty-nine years Jean Bacon, his daughters Lily and Claire Taub, his mother Florence Taub of New York City, and his sister Jennifer Taub of Amherst, Massachusetts, his in-laws Ronald and Jane Bacon of Arlington, Vermont in addition to brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, and cousins.
The family will be sitting shiva at their home at 26 Mechanic Street, North Bennington, Vermont though April 15th. Visitors are welcome to stop by between 4:00 and 7:00 pm on April 13th through April 15th.

Ive always liked my Cousin Daniel, though I never knew him well. We were far apart in age and distance, so the opportunity wasnt there to form more of a relationship.
But his personality and character made itself known to me in small ways when we did get together as adults for family events. There were several times in particular, when he and Jean hosted Lilys and Clairs Bas Mitzvahs, that Daniels graciousness and kindness shone. It was so evident how proud he was of his daughters. And the pride he took in gathering the family together.
So, dearest Cousin Daniel, as one who was a part of my small extended family, I love and shall miss you.
