Donald Patnode Obituary
Deerfield, MA - Donald R. Patnode, 89, of Deerfield MA, passed away on Dec. 22, 2023. Born in Greenfield, MA on May 18, 1934 and raised in West Deerfield, he was the son of Arthur and Delia (Miner) Patnode. He attended Old Deerfield Grammar School and Deerfield High School before serving in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was a commercial truck driver, retiring from Sandri Energy.
He was a fascinating storyteller who enjoyed gardening and woodworking. He was devoted to his family and was always happy to help friends and neighbors.
He leaves his wife of 67 years, Marilyn of Deerfield; a daughter, Helen Murphy (David) of Greenfield, MA; three grandchildren: Joshua Murphy (Rebekah) of Richmond, NH, Justine Murphy (William) of Newfane, VT, and Jenessa Murphy (Arthur) of New Salem, MA; two great-grandchildren: Tucker and Everett Murphy; a brother, Richard Patnode (Diane) of Hephzibah, GA; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and eight siblings.
A celebration of life will be held on Jan. 14 at 1 pm at the Greenfield Elks Lodge (3 Church St., Greenfield, MA). In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Donald's name to the Dementia Society of America, P.O. Box 600, Doylestown, PA 18901 or dementiasociety.charityproud.org Funeral arrangements under the direction of the McCarthy Funeral Homes, John C. Davis, Director. I'm so sorry to hear about Donald. I've been friends with Donald and Marilyn for as long as I can remember. One of my funniest memories of Donald was when Donnie and I were visiting them. I saw the tree out in front of their house really white. I asked Donald why it looked so white. He said it's supposed to be a birch and it didn't look white enough so I painted it. One of many humorous memories of Donald. Rest in peace.
