Howard Luippold Obituary

GREENFIELD - Howard G. Luippold, 91, of Knapp Avenue, died Thursday (1-17-13) at Baystate Franklin Medical Center.
He was born in Montague on April 29, 1921, the son of Gustave and Anna (Cocking) Luippold. He attended local schools in Montague and graduated from Turners Falls High School, Class of 1939, as vice president of his class. Howard continued his education and graduated from the former Northampton Commercial College in June 1947 with a diploma in Business Administration and Accounting.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1943 until 1946 and was discharged with rank of 1st Sergeant. He served with the 483rd Anti Aircraft Artillery Battalion in the Pacific. He received the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with two battle stars, Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal and Rifle Marksman badge.
Mr. Luippold was employed at the G.E. plant in Pittsfield after graduating from Northampton Commercial College. He was then employed at the Franklin Medical Center from 1959 to 1985 as the business office manager. He was also the treasurer/manager of the Hospital Credit Union from 1959 to 1992.
He was a former member of the Thomas Memorial Country Club in Turners Falls and the Greenfield Council on Aging, where he served on the finance committee.
He enjoyed his family, traveling, walking, gardening and his friends at Adam's Donut Shop.
Howard leaves his wife of 70 years, the former Anna DeNofrio, who he married on May 16, 1942 at Holy Trinity Church; a son, Brian and his wife Susan and their son Nathan of Greenfield; two brothers, Erwin Luippold of West Springfield and Donald Luippold of Meridian, ID, and several nieces and nephews.
A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday (1-22-13) at noon at Blessed Sacrament Church, 221 Federal St., with the Rev. Timothy J. Campoli, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
A calling hour will be held on Tuesday from 10:45 to 11:45 a.m. at the Kostanski Funeral Home, 220 Federal St., Greenfield.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Blessed Sacrament Church, 184 High St., or to the Greenfield Senior Center, 54 High St., Suite 2, both in Greenfield, MA 01301.
