Janet was a blessing to me. She gave me my family, friendship, and I could confide in her in complete confidence. I wish everyone knew her the way I did. I wish I had 20 more years to call her Mom.

Mrs. Sutton was my first-grade teacher at Four Corners School in Greenfield, Massachusetts. I was fortunate enough to have some terrific teachers in the Greenfield public school system, and Mrs. Sutton was one of the best and one of my favorites. She was smart, curious, patient, attentive, warm, kind, and very generous with her time with each and every student. She was an exceptional communicator -- she always listened to you carefully, and when she spoke, you were always wholly absorbed in what she had to say. About 15 years after she taught me in first grade, she appeared in a macroeconomics course that I was taking at Greenfield Community College. She recognized me straight away, smiled, laughed, and we commenced talking and catching up. In that class, she would sit in the front row, and I would sit in one of the back rows. I don't why. She and I were always friendly and chatty before and after class. But she gave me my space during class. Funny. Anyway, we moved on together from macroeconomics one term to microeconomics the next term. Our professor for both was the same. He liked both of us, Mrs. Sutton and me. I think that we were his "pets." Mrs. Sutton and I were always prepared for class, participated in class discussions when no one else would, handed in our homework on time, studied hard for quizzes and exams, and did well! I'm glad and grateful that I got to see her again, all those years later, and that she was the same genuinely fine and good person. She had so much grace. So, thank you, Mrs. Sutton, for being a supremely engaging and effective teacher, a cheerful and supportive classmate, and for being my friend. I'm not a sappy guy, and this may sound corny, but I will always strive to carry in me your gracious spirit your enthusiasm for life and learning. Thank you, Mrs. Sutton, for sharing these virtues of yours with me. I won't forget!
