Benny Whitfield Obituary

Benny Whitfield

It is with great sadness that this obituary is written,

Benny Whitfield has left us on his last 'long haul'; this time to his final destination,

He was born Oct. 22, 1940 in Indianola, Ok. and left on his last journey in the early morning hours of Apr. 2, 2023.

He was a truck driver through and through.

He found his other half, Barbara, at a baseball game; she came to watch the game and he came to watch the girls walk by. There was an immediate connection and the following Jan. they were married. Together they had 2 daughters, Charlene Carrasco (his favorite oldest daughter) and Sharon Riordan (his favorite youngest daughter). The 2 girls each blessed him and Barbara with three children. Charlene: Roxan Sierra (Filbert), Casey Hatfield (Katrina), and Billy Whitfield (Kayli). Sharon: Matthew Riordan (Jenna), Nick Riordan (Mikka), Shane Riordan (Brittany). He said all grandchildren are great, but these are the 'real' greats. Erin Sierra, Warren Sierra, Angel Sierra (predeceased) Lincoln Sierra, Zain Riordan (predeceased) Jaxon Riordan, Powell Riordan, Aaliayah Riordan, Ryot Riordan, Rydix Riordan, Lydia Riordan, Walker Hatfield, Taylor Carothers, Oakley Whitfield and Willow Whitfield.

I knew Benny from Pleasant View grade school .
When I would see him walking in Poplar he may say hi, and he may not. He was so very shy. Never spoke in class unless he was asked by the teacher. This is what I remember .
I moved away from Poplar in 1956 , and never saw any of the kids I had gone to school with for Many years. I attended the first Poplar Reunion a few years ago at Bartlett Park. I meet Bennys wife there. I said to her That I was glad Benny had found a wonder wife. I felt his life was complete and was finally a Happy man .. the last time I saw Benny was at the Walmart in Porterville.. Barb went inside and I went over and talked to Benny, and Barb when she came out of Walmart.
All the years I had visited Porterville I had never seen any of the kids I knew. So this was meant to be , and I got to see Benny and Barb one more time. RIP Benny. You were a good man here on Earth.

Barbara and daughters, my heart and prayers are with you all !!
I grew up with Benny he was so shy he would say Hello to you if you said hello to him, but in a very low voice.. I was so glad to see Benny at the first Poplar Reunion and talk with him.
The last time I was in Porterville I saw Benny and Barbara drive into the parking lot, and I walked over to talk to him again and he said Will Janie what are you doing here. Benny was always a friend I loved visiting with... You will be greatly missed Benny !
