Irvin James Miller

1928 - 2019

Irvin James Miller was born in Murray, Utah on December 9,1928. He was the youngest of four children born to James Albert Miller and Minerva Fisher Miller. He attended school in Salt Lake City. After graduating in 1946 from Southern High School, he served a two year mission in Alberta, British Columbia, Canada as a missionary from 1948 to 1950 for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Upon returning home he attended the University of Utah where he graduated as a pharmacist in July 1953.
He met and married Afton Frisbey in 1954. They moved to California where he had a job waiting at Claubes Pharmacy in Porterville. After a few years he moved to J&J Pharmacy before starting his own drug store known as the Village Drug located in the Village Shopping Center. He then had an opportunity to relocate to the Sequoia Medical Building as the owner of Sequoia Pharmacy. During this time, he was called to serve as Bishop of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Porterville. He retired and moved to Pismo Beach for several years. After moving again to Arroyo Grande, he lost his sweet wife Afton in 2001.
His next move was back to a home near one of his daughters, Laraine Cotten, near Strathmore. Throughout his life, his greatest love and legacy was his family. He is survived by one son Craig Miller of Clovis, two daughters, Peggy Wheeler (Don) of Porterville and Laraine Cotten (Terry) of Strathmore, eleven grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by the love of his life, Afton Miller, and a son Allan Miller. Visitation will be Friday, February, 1st at 9:00 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Stake Center at 837 Morton. A service will be held at 1O:00 am followed by a private interment.
