Barbara Anne Caffese, 61, passed away May 6 at St. Joseph's Medical Center, in the company of her loving family.
Barbara was born in Stockton on January 24, 1948 and raised in Tracy by her parents, Guy and Dorothy Scott. She graduated from Tracy High School in 1966. Four years later, at the age of 22, Barbara married Gary Caffese, of Stockton, in 1970 at St. Luke's Church in Stockton. Their reception was held at the Italian-Athletic Club.
Barbara, who loved to travel, worked at Segale Travel Service in Stockton until the birth of her first child, daughter Michelle. She gave birth to a second daughter, Marie, four years after her first. Barbara also worked at Macy's in Stockton and at the University of the Pacific School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. Barbara loved to work with the diverse graduate students from the School of Pharmacy, and befriended many.
An enthusiastic and inexhaustible shopper, Barbara made friends wherever she went. She was a loving wife, devoted mother and precious Nonna to her grandchildren. Barbara was a member of the Native Daughters of the Golden West. She loved spending time with her family and friends.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Gary; daughter Michelle Dal Porto and her husband, Richard Dal Porto; grandchildren Chiara and Rocco Dal Porto; and daughter Marie Burkin-Caffese and her husband, Christian Burkin.
Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, May 11th at the Evergreen Chapel at Cherokee Memorial Park, off Harney Lane in Lodi. A Catholic rosary and funeral will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday May 12th at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Stockton. Monsignor Richard Ryan will administer the service. Dearest Michelle and Marie,
Please accept my deepest and heartfelt condolences on the loss of your dear mother, Barbara. I remember her well, the challenges she faced with dignity and grace, her quiet strength, and her lovely, lovely soul. You girls are quiet, strong, and grounded because of her.
