Albert C. "Butch" Whitaker, Jr., a 62 year resident of Poughkeepsie, NY was called home to serve the Lord on Friday, September 5, 2008 at Vassar Bros. Medical Center, in Poughkeepsie.

Albert was born on November 18, 1945 in Newburgh, NY to Albert C. Whitaker, Sr. and Meme Smith Whitaker. He attended and graduated from the City of Poughkeepsie School District. In 1965 Albert joined the Army, a proud memeber of the 82nd Airborne Division for 27 years. During his military career he lead many training and maneuver expeditions abroad. Upon his retirement he pursed a career in youth advocacy at the Youth Resource Developement Center and on to the New York State Office of Children and family services for ten years, retiring December 2006.

Survivors included are his father, Albert C. Whitaker, Sr. of Poughkeepsie; two daughters, Tracy Whitaker of Poughkeepsie and Michelle Whitaker of Fayetteville, NC; brother, Christopher Whitaker; two sisters, Chantel Gordon (Roy) and Keisha Whitaker (Thomas) all of Poughkeepsie; two grandchildren, Ke'Airrah Whitted and Kayson Whitted, both of Fayetteville; and special aunt, Louvenia White of Poughkeepsie, and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. He was predeceased by his mother, Meme Smith Whitaker and brother, Melvin Whitaker.

Services will be held at the Beulah Baptist Church, 92 Catherine St., Poughkeepsie, NY at 11 a.m. on Thursday, September 11, with the Rev. Regina Stroman officiating. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. prior to the service. Internment with full military honors at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery, Poughkeepsie.
