Mr. Osgood was my tennis coach at Goshen and my friend. He was one of the nicest guys I ever new and was always so warm and welcoming whenever I would see him around. I was honored to be at the ceremony when they re-named the tennis courts in Goshen after his legacy. He dedicated so much time at those courts helping kids with their tennis while also teaching them about life and strengthening their character.

I would know something was wrong if I didn't see him at the high school basketball games keeping score and managing the clock. I remember walking across the floor at halftime or after the games to say hello and he would always ask how I was doing in school and how my parents were. He truly had a huge heart. He was always approachable no matter what was going on around him and would listen to me. I thank him dearly for being so kind. I wish there were more people like Mr. Osgood in this world.

I was so fortunate to have Mr. Osgood as one of my teachers at GCS.

His tremendous love for science influenced my career choice. I truly appreciate the quality of education that I received at GCS & Mr. Osgood was one of the best. It never occurred to him to expect anything but the best from us. He taught male & female students equally. There was no age, gender, or social bias within him. He fostered my love for science.

My condolences to the Osgood family. Carl was one of the finest teachers I know. It was on the class trip to Howe Caverns that our class of '62 coerced "Miss Costic and Mr Osgood" to stand on the kissing rock with the legend that within one year those who stand together on that rock would marry. I think it was true! He will be sorely missed by those of us fortunate enough to have had him for a teacher and mentor!

Carl was really a great man. We are all better people to have known him. Our son, David, wrote the following: "I liked him as a teacher, a tennis coach, and as a human being." Our school system and the thousands of students with whom he came in contact benefited from this quiet hero.

I was fortunate enough to have been coached by Mr. Osgood for several years on the Goshen Tennis Team. He would always encourage and support us even if we were not the best of players. Everyone was given a chance to prove themselves and we always felt important and special to him. As the current Mayor, I am honored to extend my condolences on behalf of the entire Village of Goshen.

Millie, I was so saddened to hear of Carl's passing. He was a wonderful person, friend, and teacher. I still have my "required plates" that we had to draw for his class--in my time capusule that I put together when I moved from Campbell Hall. Over the years after school, he remained interested in me, and he always asked about how my brother, John, was doing. John loved and respected him greatly, and really enjoyed their visits when he was able to travel to Goshen. Carl was one of the reasons that both John and I became teachers..he was a wonderful role model. My thoughts are with you during this sad time.

Most sincerely, Jeri Miletich-Heinzelman (GCS-Class '58)

Millie - Carl was a wonderful person, teacher, coach, and friend. He was our class advisor, and in doing so, had to put up with our crazy teenage years in Goshen. Carl did things with a positive attitude and installed strong believes in all of us in high school. He will be dearly missed. God Bless! Don Riverkamp, Class of 1958

Carl was my inspiration to become a high school teacher and coach, although I had my career at Goshen's main rival, Warwick. He coached me and got to coach against my son Justin. My wife Patricia Zawaski Lorgan coached tennis against Carl. In every one of our collective experiences with this great man and teacher, we found we admired him more and more. I am just so glad my family got to know this wonderful man. I never heard him raise his voice, although I gave him many opportunities. All of us who had any contact with Carl will never forget his gentle yet firm approach.
