This is an extremely belated condolence message, and I do hope it finds Darlene's family. Darlene was one of my best childhood friends. We met when my sister and I joined Powers Dance Studio. I simply adored Darlene. She used to come to Middletown to visit her grandmother, but invariably we ended up somewhere (either in the side yard outside her grandma's condo or in my living room) choreographing one dance or another! I absolutely remember all these years later some of the songs we chose and the dance routines we worked on together. Such fun! I loved visiting her family on Kings Drive; her mom Julie in particular was absolutely delightful and so kind to me. We used to go hang out and dance in her neighbor's gazebo across the street from her house. Darlene taught me to make my first grilled cheese sandwich in her kitchen! What a wonderful friend, and our mutual love of dance was such a special memory for me. We lost touch as we started high school and I stopped dancing... but I knew Darlene never would! I sure wish I'd thought to search the internet for her much sooner so that I could have reestablished contact with my wonderful friend Darlene. May her memories and fully lived life of kindness and joy and love of dance continue to sustain your family. Warmest regards, Jennifer (Jorgensen) Dempsey

Dear Matt,
Rich, Shari, Marc, Jamie and I just heard about Darlene. Although we have not been in touch recently we are all grieving her loss. Shari says Darlene was her inspiration for dance. And she did it with the same heart Darlene did. Jamie and Marc are so sorry and can't believe their Scatamachina is gone. Rich and I are here for you, remembering your early days with Dar. Please know you're in our thoughts and prayers. We will attend Tuesday's Memorial service.

When I first met Darlene as she put me into Sunset Boulevard I was so struck by how I had met the kindest person in the world. Then I was blessed again to be a part of the Side Show family with her. She radiated love and light and everyone who was touched by her is very lucky. I hope her family can find comfort in knowing that light will never go away.

With Love,

Scott,

I just read the newspaper article about Darlene, which was sent to me by my mother. I am so terribly sorry for your loss. I can only imagine how difficult it must be for you and your family. I remember how close you and Darlene were in high school and what a wonderful relationship the two of you had. Darlene always had such grace and poise, your family should be proud of the impact she has had on others. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

DEAREST JULIE, MATT, MICHELLE, AND SCOTT,
I COULDN'T STAY, BUT I WANTED TO TELL YOU THAT IT WAS A BEAUTIFUL SERVICE.
I SENT THE BOOK LAST WEEK HAVING NO IDEA TODAY WOULD COME SO SOON. I JUST WANT TO SAY THAT I FEEL LIKE I MISSED OUT ON A TREMENDOUS OPPORTUNITY IN LIFE, AND THAT WAS TO KNOW DARLENE BETTER THAN I DID. I'VE ALWAYS ADMIRED HER SO MUCH, AND TODAY SHE WAS A HUGE INSPIRATION TO ME.
I BELIEVE IN HEAVEN, AND I KNOW SHE IS WITH ALL OF OUR ANGELS UP THERE. I REMEMBER HAVING SEVERAL CONVERSATIONS WITH UNCLE BUDDY, WHO WOULD ALWAYS TELL ME HE WAS GOING TO PARIDISE. DARLENE WILL BE WELL LOOKED AFTER.
LOVE, LINDA ELY

I met Darlene when I made my Broadway debut in Side Show. I was young, nervous and overwhelmed, but Darlene went out of her way to make me feel welcome, confident, and to make things seem a bit less scary. Her warmth and talent stays with me today. Matt,
So sorry to hear about your wife Darlene. Wow--she lived a full life in her 45 years!

I've appreciated the opportunity to work with you over the last year and a half. You've always been kind, helpful and diligent, despite what must have been a struggle at home that undoubtedly made our software projects seem relatively unimportant in the overall scheme of life.

My wife and children remember meeting you at Olive Garden a few weeks ago. We will pray for you with the hope that you will receive comfort and strength from God to help you in your time of need.

Dear sweet friend, my Dar Dar...

Thank you! Thank you for sharing yourself with me. Your gifts are legion- and it would seem that no one who came into contact with you was left untouched. I'm no exception. You were above all- above the creativity, above the light and humor, above the deep and abiding friendship- you were a safe space for me; you were both a rock and a soft spot for me; you believed when I couldn't, and helped me across so many rough patches with grace, kindness, compassion. I only hope to become the human being you saw in me.

I love you deeply, and will miss you more than I can say- you're in my heart forever, sweet sweet Dar Dar.

To Matt and Julie,
Thank you for sharing your angel Darlene with us. I'm so so sorry...I know your hearts are broken; Case and I are here if you need us in any way...

Always-
