He really was all these great things that are said about people on their passing. He had a passion for children and teaching and for life. I remember him well as my 5th grade teacher at Temple Hill. I'm sorry to hear if his passing and my condolences to the family.

Mr. Winfield taught me to expect more of myself and the students that I teach. He has a legacy that expands beyond Newburgh, NY. I have carried his thoughts, expectations and hope with me for the past 30 years of teaching.

Mr Winfield was my FAVORITE teacher! 5th grade Temple Hill. Jan-Jun 1974. Reading his obit I now understand all the RUNNING we had to do! That's the year I realized I could run, FAST! I only had him 1/2 year as a transfer student and he was my favorite from day 1. He smelled great too! I think he wore old spice and whenever I smelled old spice it brought back happy memories. His smile in this picture is as big as I remember. Like another person wrote, I too was coming into his class after major family issues and he sensed it or knew it and I felt very safe in his class. Sending prayers to Heaven as I know he's up there smiling BIG and well probably running around the place.

I had Mr Winfield for 4th grade. I continue to write poems and music because of him, he taught me to express myself through writing and drawing in a journal every morning and to go outside and take a deep breath every once in a while (in through the nose, out through the mouth). My condolences to his family and everyone he had an impact on. The community lost a great person. R.I.P, Sir.

Dear Winfield family,
I give you all my deepest & sincerest sympathy. Mr. Winfield was by far my favorite all time teacher. I came to him in my 5th grade, the summer after my brother passed, whom he also had as a student. He took me under his wing and protected me like I was his child and taught me many wondrous things. I cannot say enough of what a great man and mentor he was.
I would run into him every now & then when I came home to visit, and he always remembered me and my family.
I'm so happy I had the chance to tell him personally, how much it meant to me to have him as my teacher. The 1st black teacher I had.
My condolences to all 3 of his children & his extended family. I remember when Anthony was born the year I was his student. We gave him a little party.
May he rest in peace and may God continue to bless you all.
Most Sincerest Condolences,
Janine Owens-Griffin & the Owens Family

Dear Family and Friends, I was so very sorry to have learned of Ed's passing. He was a very unique person - one of a kind. I first knew him when he taught at Temple Hill and had the opportunity to visit his classroom many times. I was always amazed at the way he interacted with his students - with great creativity and passion. He carried those qualities throughout his life. Ed and Priscilla were great friends and supporters of the NTA as in service colleagues and later as retirees. He will be missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire family. With condolences, Frank Colone
