Eugene Roberts Obituary

Port Jervis, NY

Mr. Eugene Roberts, a lifetime resident of Port Jervis, NY, died Saturday, March 29, 2008 at Bon Secours Community Hospital with his family by his side. He was 94.

He was born September 8, 1913 in Port Jervis, NY, the son of the late Henry and the late Frances Horton Roberts. He married Catherine Ross 71 years ago on June 12, 1936 at Drew United Methodist Church in Port Jervis, NY.

Eugene worked for Gillinder Brothers Glass Factory for 43 years as a Presser and helped form Local 522 American Flint and Glass Workers Union in Port Jervis.

He was a member of Drew United Methodist Church in Port Jervis. He was a life member of the Port Jervis Elk's Lodge #645, B.P.O.E.

Eugene formerly served on the Port Jervis Democratic Committee and was a former member of the Tri-state Hose Co. #6.

A family statement reads: "Dad's life was a life well lived. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother."

Survivors include his wife, Catherine Roberts, at home; three sons: Richard K. Roberts and his wife, Michele of Port Jervis, NY, Michael E. Roberts and his wife, Paula of Port Jervis, NY, and Henry R. Roberts of Matthews, NC; daughter-in-law, Sheila Roberts of Reno, NV; daughter, Marlene Horan and her husband, Rex of Port Jervis, NY; brother, William Roberts and his wife, Beverly of Matamoras, PA; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brother, Alfred Roberts, and sister, Betty Hobson.

Friends may call at Gray-Parker Funeral Home, 100 E. Main St., Port Jervis, on Tuesday, April 1, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., with Elk's Service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 2, at 11 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be at Pine Hill Cemetery, Sparrowbush, NY.

Memorial contributions may be made to: Drew United Methodist Church, PO Box 1015, Port Jervis, NY 12771.
