Gilbert McCord Obituary

Gilbert K. "Bert" McCord
June 30, 1965 - December 20, 2020
Pine Bush, New York
Gilbert Keith McCord slipped into eternal rest on December 20, 2020, after a year and a half long battle with cancer. It was also the 17th anniversary of his mothers passing. He was 55 years old.
Known by many names: Gil, Bert, Uncle, Papa Bear, Brother and Grandpa...Gil was born in Bridgeport Connecticut on June 30th 1965. Bert was an avid Scout of CT Troop 71, learning early the Scout Motto of "Be Prepared". Gil graduated Stratford High School and shortly after followed the family to Pine Bush NY. Bert worked for many years at Fair Rite Products in Wallkill NY and for the past 15+ years at the United States Postal Service in Pine Bush. On his mail route he met the love of his life, Marjorie Mullen and they soon married. Gil and Margie enjoyed many Motorcycle adventures as well as kayaking with his extended Bear family. Gil stayed true to his Scout roots and was a leader, co-leader and constant volunteer for Boy Scout Troop 37 of Pine Bush. Bert lived life by his own rules, and to say he was an outdoorsman was an understatement. Bert enjoyed Scouting, shooting, fishing, hiking, camping and ATV adventures with family and friends.
Gil is pre-deceased by Gilbert B. and Patricia McCord (Frisbie). Gil is survived by his wife, Margie McCord "Momma Bear" at home; Sonja McCord-Killie and Sons Justin and Jonathan Folds, Lora McCord and her children, AJ Christie and Stephanie Garcia (husband Eddie). Daniel McCord (wife Debbie) and his children, Nicole and Alexander. Gil had an enormous family consisting of the whole Bear family, The DuBois, Valk and VanHouten families as well as nieces, nephews and his work family. The Family would like to thank the many nurses and caregivers at Garnett Medical who gave him comfort and understanding in his final days.
A Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a later date.
Donations can be made in his name to: Boy Scout Troop 37, P.O. Box 4, Thompson Ridge NY 10985.

Marilyn and me knew Gil since 1991 socially as he and Dan were our neighbors for quite some time and also through Dan and Debbie. Our fondest memories of Gil was at Dan and Debbie's wedding. Marilyn and me sat together with Gil and shared stories. Gil was always a gentle and kind person and always treated us like longtime personal friends. He truly was Gods gift to the world. A gentle spirit. A kind and caring man, a very special person. He will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him. Our sincerest condolences to Dan and Debbie, to all his family and all his friends and all the people who knew him. God bless you and keep you always. Rest eternally in peace brother.
