Harold E. Kearns

Harold E. Kearns, age 92, of New Paltz, died Thursday, February 15, 2007 at The Mountainview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in New Paltz, N.Y.

Mr. Kearns was born August 10, 1914 in White Plains, N.Y., the son of the late Edward J. and the late Hazel Emma (Wilson) Kearns. He married Rebecca Pohaku, who predeceased him on September 17, 1998.

He was retired from the Wallkill Correctional Facility, Wallkill, N.Y., where he worked as a guard. Harold served in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1945 during World War II. He was a member of Adonai Lodge #718, F. & A.M. in Highland and was a life member of the American Legion Post #1034 in Wallkill.

He had a lot of fun fishing at sea, and seeing how much per pound the fish would cost him. He was always there for his family.

He is survived by his son, Harold E. and his wife, Anne Kearns of Gardiner; granddaughter, Tabitha A. and her husband, Wayne Brown of Heuvelton, N.Y.; great-grandson, Wayne A. Brown, Jr. of Heuvelton, N.Y.; great-granddaughter, Olivia Ree Brown of Heuvelton, N.Y., and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Edward and Stanley Kearns.

Calling hours will be Tuesday, February 20, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Copeland Funeral Home, Inc., 162 So. Putt Corners Rd., New Paltz, N.Y.

The funeral will be Tuesday evening at 6:30 p.m. in the funeral home, with the Rev. Arlene Dawber officiating. Burial will be in Bruynswick Rural Cemetery, Wallkill, N.Y.
