GREENVILLE - Mr. Edward "Eddie" Dean Stocks, 78, passed away Sunday, March 30, 2025.
The funeral service will be held Friday at 2:00 PM at Hollywood Church EPC. Keith Cobb will officiate the service. Burial will follow in Pinewood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:45 PM to 1:45 PM at the church.
Eddie was born October 31, 1946 and graduated from Chicod High School in 1965. While at Chicod, he served as Class President, FFA President, played a number of sports, and was voted "Best All Around" in his senior class. Following high school, he went on to attend and graduate from N.C. State University. During his college years, he joined the US Army Reserve and rose to the rank of Sergeant. Eddie also began working with J.H. Hudson Construction, Inc. prior to his graduation. He would continue working with J.H. Hudson and later, Hudson Brothers Construction Company, until his retirement in 2010. He was instrumental in obtaining a county wide water system for Pitt County in the early 1980's. He also served on the Pitt County Planning Board for a number of years.
Eddie married the love of his life, Sara Venters, in 1969 at Chicod Presbyterian Church. They later joined Hollywood Presbyterian Church in 1981, where Eddie served as a church elder, Moderator of Building Committee for the "Venture of Faith", and on the Gift and Memorial Fund Committee. He served as Secretary of the Men of the Church for many years, and in 2012 was honored with their Man of the Year Award.
Eddie was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Margaret Stocks.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Sara Venters Stocks; son, Edward Bryan Stocks and wife, Laurie; daughter, Bridget Stocks Turrone; grandchildren, Ashley and Matthew Stocks and Anna and Landon Turrone; brother, Gary Stocks and wife, Lorena; sister, Martie Goodall and husband, Ronnie; and a number of special nephews.
