Ethel Eakes Obituary

LA GRANGE - Ethel Rouse Eakes, 77, of 208D East King St. died Sunday, March 5, 2006, at her home. Mrs. Eakes was born in Lenoir County to the late George A. Rouse Sr. and Carrie Stroud Rouse. She was retired from the Lenoir County public school system, where she worked in the cafeteria at Banks Elementary School. Mrs. Eakes was a member of Wheat Swamp Christian Church for more than 50 years, and she had a great love of quilting. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 3 p.m. from Rouse Funeral Home with the Rev. Ivy White officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Mrs. Eakes is survived by two sons, Arthur Eakes of Wilmington and William Earl "Buddy Roe" Eakes of La Grange; sister, Doris Ann Rouse and husband, Kenneth, of Seven Springs; three brothers, Dottie Rouse and wife, Ruby, of La Grange, Frank Rouse and wife, Peggy, of Kinston and Donald Rouse and wife, Shirley, of La Grange; sister-in-law, Evelyne Rouse of La Grange; numerous nieces and nephews, along with many special friends. She was preceded in death by a sister, Effie Dee White; brother, Gordon "Monk" Rouse; sister-in-law, Shirley A. Rouse; and a brother-in-law, Clinton White. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home and at other times they will be at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph A. Price Jr., 2660 Hodges Farm Road, La Grange. Flowers are welcome, or memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 930B Wellness Drive, Greenville, NC 27834. Arrangements are with Rouse Funeral Home, La Grange.
