Herbert Alton Gardner Jr.

Mr. Herbert Alton Gardner, Jr., 63, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday morning May 18, 2015. The service honoring his life and home going will be on Friday at 11 am in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Homestead Memorial Gardens. Mr. Gardner will always be remembered as a Godly man and born again Christian. He was a good provider to his family, devoted husband, and a very hard worker and always put others before himself. He mostly enjoyed spending time with family, especially his grandchildren who he truly adored. He was a loving Pastor, and a retired bail bondsman. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert Alton Gardner and Permelia Garrett Gardner; and a daughter, Candace Permelia Gardner. He is survived by his: wife of 42 years, Jacqueline Hopkins Gardner; daughter, Marnia Gardner of Greensboro; son, Eric Levon Gardner and wife, Sandra, of Greenville; grandchildren, Ashli Edwards, Varnet Jones, Travis Jones, Tyler Gardner and Darius Gardner; brothers, Ronnie Gardner of Pinetops and Queney Gardner and wife, Deloris, of Greenville; sisters, Sheryl Cox, and husband, Ricky, of Greenville and Diane Moore and husband, Gary, of Charlotte; aunt, Bonnie Ruth Jackson of Greenville; and a very special longtime best friend, Pastor Steve Somerville, and wife, Varnell, of Charlotte. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral from 10 to 11 am at Wilkerson Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family ask that donations be sent to New Heritage Church, 107 E.
