Dr. Karl Busbee Pace Jr., 90, of Gloucester, died Friday, June 28, 2013, at home.
A graveside funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday Greenwood Cemetery, Greenville, with the Rev. C. Thomas Midyette III, officiating.
Dr. Pace was born in Pitt County on April 9, 1923, to Dr. Karl B. Pace Sr. and Lida Taylor Pace.
His family had the first cottage on Atlantic Beach, built in 1932, next door to the old Atlantic Beach Hotel. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. Educated as a dermatologist, he worked as a stockbroker on Wall Street for many years. Dr. Pace’s passions were many, including wildlife and the coastal area of North Carolina. He had great respect for the ocean and a great love for Shackleford Banks, as well as Cape Lookout. He, alone, created the Wysocking Wildlife Sanctuary, Inc., a non- profit organization for the habitat of all sorts of wildlife in Eastern N.C.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Derrickson Pace; brother, Dr. Charles Taylor Pace of Greenville; sister-in-law, Barbara Pace of Emerald Isle; six nephews and one niece.
The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Monday at Brooks Funeral Home.
Dr. Pace was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, John Thomas Walter Pace.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to Wysocking Wild Life Sanctuary, 229 Hubbard Road, Gloucester, NC 28528
