Thomas Lovdahl Obituary

GALESBURG - Thomas E. "Tom" Lovdahl, 58, Galesburg, was reunited with the love of his life, Alice, at 10:58 a.m. Tuesday, June 23, 2020.

Tom was born Aug. 1, 1961, in Monmouth, the son of Theodore E. and Sarah Eunice Jesso Lovdahl Sr. He married Rhonda Ketner on Sept. 29, 1979, in Galesburg. He later married Alice Gail Johnson on June 8, 1990, in Galesburg. She preceded him in death on May 29, 2018.

Tom is survived by his mother, Eunice (Joe) Beckman of Belvidere; children, Shannon (Mike) Hayward of Clinton, Tami (Mike) Wilckens of Oneida, Jennifer Lovdahl of Deland, Angela (Eli) Smith of Peoria and Travis Cannady of Galesburg; his brother, Gene (Alice) Lovdahl of Belvidere; his three sisters, Karen Chennault and Krystal Graham, both of Sharon, Wisconsin, and Rachael Clem of Belvidere; his brother-in-law and rock, Steve Johnson of Galesburg; 16 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father; his wife; son, Patrick "PJ" Fegan; brother, Timothy E. Lovdahl; and grandson, Cyris Cannady.

Tom served his country for eight years in the U.S. Army.

Tom worked hard and played harder. He worked for Jefferson Smurfit for over 20 years and had currently been working for B. Carlson Trucking for 12 years. He attended Galesburg schools and took accounting classes at Carl Sandburg College. Tom was an avid motorcycle enthusiast, riding motorcycles his entire life. He became an avid Cubs fan. He was truly a family man and gentle giant; he loved every child, grandchild, great-grandchild, brother, sister and extended family. He was known for his special greeting, "The Lovdahl Lick." To say Tom will be missed is an understatement.

Visitation is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday, June 29, 2020, at Hinchliff-Pearson-Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel. Military honors will be at 1:30 p.m. at the chapel, with funeral services to follow. Chaplain Jordan Knight will officiate. Cremation will be accorded following services. Due to social distancing limitations related to the COVID-19 pandemic, seating will be limited and face masks will be required. Memorials may be made to the family. To the entire Lovdahl family! My family and I send our deepest condolences, and we pray God will strengthen you in this time of bereavement.
I remember growing up on West North Street. Gene, Tom, Timmy, Karen, Krystal and Rachel was the baby. We had alot of fun playing in our neighborhood with the Zefos and Youngs. Tom was always bigger than everyone but, he was a nice guy. We ran into each other a few years ago. God bless...
