Achilles Smith Obituary
Achilles was born in Torrington, on Sept. 11, 1968, the son of Frank R. Ryder and Sally E. Ryder of Goshen and the late Barry E. Smith of Winsted and was a graduate of Gilbert High School.
He was a local handyman, and also worked in flea markets, collectibles, and antiques. He loved his music, guitars, and his many friends. Archie will be remembered for always being available to help friends and family and will be greatly missed.
In addition to parents, he leaves two sons, David M. Smith and Kevin Smith, and a grandson Jayden Smith, all of Winsted. He also leaves two brothers, Timothy E. Smith of Torrington and Patrick O. Smith of Barkhamsted and his dear sister Barrie-Lynn Langford of Fennville, Michigan, seven nieces and nephews. He also leaves his dearest friends, John and Darcey Lovetere and the Brennan family of the Winsted area
A Memorial Service will be held at Phalen Funeral Home, 285 Migeon Ave., Torrington, at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 4, with Rev William Ashburn officiating. Relative and friends may call prior to the service from 9 to 10:30 a.m.. www.phalenfuneral.com.

Archie was a person who at any time day or night that if you needed something and he could do it for you he would. He was a happy person who was always wanted everyone to have fun and enjoy the day. Archie cared deeply about his family and his friends he was polite, kind and caring and will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him and having him in their life. I know with your maker now Archie and I’m sure your playing a rift on your guitar for him!!! Miss you bro.

Smith & Ryder Family, My sincere sympathy go out to all of you during this time of loss of your son, brother, uncle and friend. I recall fondly many neighborhood kickball - wiffleball games in our front yard. Aichie was always willing to play on the girls team as there were not many of us. His giving spirit was always part of who he was. He was helpful to my sister (Susan) during his neice and nephew's early lives, watching movies with Chelsea and just being a source of laughter for the family during some trying times. May memories of Archie's life help in the coming days to offer some peace. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.
