Timothy Sofia Obituary
Tim moved to Connecticut in 1994. He was a carpenter by trade and an artist by heart ("gay"). He never hesitated to drop what he was doing to help someone. He saw the beauty in things that others didn't. His laugh was quick to come, loud and infectious. When he liked you, he would pick on you relentlessly.
Besides his mother, he leaves his (B) daughter Anouchka, his (LOHL) soul-mate Dottie Cowden and his best friend Bones. His aunts, Kirsten Adams, of New Jersey and Erika Hauschildt, of New York. The Lueckerts, of Florida. And his extended families the O'Leary, Sherman's and the Betts of Connecticut.
A memorial will be held at The Winchester Restaurant, 144 Wolcott Ave., Torrington on Monday, April 11 from 3 to 8 p.m. Please bring your stories and memories to share.
In lieu of flowers please make contributions to The Cancer Center of CT and/or Charlotte Hungerford Hospital in memory of Tim.

Oh Timmy..
Been a while since I wrote but I miss you. I know that Billy does. It is still hard for him to talk about losing you.
Our daughter is getting married and she is doing so well in her career.

Timmy and I were best friends in elementary school, and drifted apart by junior high. I didn't know him after that, and was saddened to find out about his passing on this site, via google. I remember Timmy as the most good-natured kid I had ever known. We were comrades-in-arms exploring the basements of the apartment buildings of Rego Park. My belated condolences to his family and friends and to his mother, Phyllis, who was a 2nd mother to me in those days.

I come to this site every few years to reflect on how everyone saw my dad. I make it half way through the comments before I start to cry. I thank everyone who wrote a message about my dad. He was such a teddy bear. I miss him so much. I miss his hugs and laughter especially. Im so proud to say I got his personality. I miss him tremendously. Thank you to everyone who wrote a comment. To the ones that are shocked to learn about his passing, I understand that this is difficult. I pray for you sadness for the news.

I knew Tim back in the Late70s /early 80's-I did some work with his mother there's a photograph of him in a group shot that hangs on my wall to this day I think of him often he was a great guy with an infectious laugh glad to know he had a daughter and many friends when I think of him I always remember his smileRIP

it is hard to believe that 4 years has gone by.. So Anouchka is about to graduate from college. She is such a fine example of lady should be. She is kind and walks in grace.

So many years together,how would I ever guess 19 years ago what we would go thru? I brought you to Ct. gave you a home and family for You and Anouchka . Most of our years and lives were good together . I know how you felt at the end and I'm glad we expressed to each other how we felt cause after all nobody knows the intimacy and bonds we shared or the fact of us never letting go of each other. Like you said,"you spent most of my adult life with me and know me better than anyone. I know you're still here with us. Everytime I look at the sunsets , moon and stars I'll think of you and I and the good times we spent together. Never forget how much we loved each other and still did thanks for the ride Tim! To Tim's family - I am so very, very, sorry for your loss. I knew Timmy way back when ... in his subway car days. I think I might even have a piece or two of his art work somewhere. Even back then he touched the hearts of everyone that he met! I sort of stumbled upon this obituary after not having spoken to Timmy for many years, and it made me very sad. But I am so glad to see that he had so much support, and that he was surrounded by such loving and caring family and friends!

I knew Timmy Sofia in Forest Hills around 1974. He was a shy, sweet and loving boy and from what I have read, a good man.
I have photographs taken of Timmy around 1974.
I hope his daughter's mother will contact me. I have something for his daughter.

Tim was my next door neighbor. I feel terrible that I didn't know what was going on. I will always remember Tim so fondly -there never will be anyone like him, Never. When I needed my driveway plowed, he helped me so much - I asked "How much do I owe you?", Tim replied, I'm not gonna charge you, you're my neighbor!" I insisted, and I think he accepted maybe $10-$15, after a lot of prodding. I knew him as a real Yankee country man, an endangered species - hard working, inventive, and a hell of a funny guy. I will miss him very much, and I extend to Anoutshka my deepest sympathy at this tremendous loss, as he was such a devoted father, and loves his little girl so dearly.

You only needed to meet him once, maybe a few more to realize how sincere of a guy he really was and you would be a forever friend of his. He always had a hug and a smile for me and sometimes that's all you needed. Bless you Tim, You and Yours.
